Pros

I liked the benefits package I received from MIT, I also enjoyed the difference in day to day work, fun events around campus, community feel, and location, career stability (MIT will always exist)

Cons

Career development, hard to jump from assistant role to an administrative role, not as much growth opportunity, raises are every 6 months but very little

Pros

Innovative, off-the-beaten path spirit, management (in my department) really does strive for transparency, staff feedback for major decisions (hiring leadership, changes to policy or space planning) are encouraged and solicited. Great people on staff: smart, friendly, supportive, for the most part love what they do. Just a great culture to be a part of.

Cons

This is academia, so if you want to move forward, you pretty much wait for someone to a.) leave or b.) retire. I've only been here for about 2 years so maybe I'm impatient, but yes, I am frustrated that in that time, no attainable opportunities for promotion have opened up. Also, the campus is dotted with really ugly sculptural art. It's like, REALLY ugly. Why??
