Pros

- Really good benefits scheme (£500/year to spend towards wellbeing/hobbies/personal tech/ISA etc. on top of a free Edinburgh Leisure gym membership), flexible working hours and custom working allows you to mix home and site working to suit you. - Chance to work on projects of major national value and plenty of international collaboration. - On the whole people are keen for innovation and there are increasing opportunities to suggest and work on new initiatives.

Cons

- Due to the nature of the industry it can feel like there is a heavy weight of approved procedures, security etc. making it difficult to implement anything new beyond an early research or exploration project. - The training budget doesn't seem up to the cost of external courses, unless you want to / can spend your evenings and weekends doing the great range of online short university courses provided free of charge.

Pros

Flexible working hours. Work life balance in general is good (half day Fridays are great.) £500 company contribution the a variety of benefits. Good job security. Interesting technology to work on.

Cons

Poor company culture (there is a massive blame culture problem which the company has tried to shake off for many years but this has been unsuccessful .) Over resourced in management and under resourced in engineering. Lack of formal training (expectation that your some kind of genius straight in the door, this is particularly difficult for graduates coming into the company.) Company processes are heavily padded out - making it very difficult to get things done day-to-day. End of the week requires you to fill out a timesheet by booking to projects, getting charge numbers to book to can take an arm and a leg to get from management, which is an unnecessary stress. Engineering jobs can be quite pigeon holed. Departments are split up in a niche way, which if you are there for a very long period of time means your job prospects in another industry will be quite low. The company has an issue with many of the older experienced people retiring and no one to take over the knowledge.
