Pros

The discount was good and uniform allowance was fair. Most of the employees were great and I've made friends for life from the store.

Cons

The store was very disjointed. Complaints were made against a fellow employee as behaved in a disrespectful manner to other employees and made some customers feel uncomfortable, however no action was ever taken against them. Some items were poorly made for the price people were expected to pay, so made for a hard sell at times. I was on a 16 hour contract to begin with and I was constantly doing more than 20 hours a week, often 30 hours a week. When I asked if I could get uniform and holidays for the amount of hours I was doing I was told no as it had to be for what I was contracted for. Managed to up my contract to 20 hours but my hours then increased to 35 hours a week, still only getting the benefits of if I was working 20 hours. I always worked weekends and never had consecutive days off. Whenever I asked for a day in the weekend off I was told that I was a "senior member of staff and was needed in the store at weekends", however many people who were more senior than me or started at the same time as me hardly ever worked weekends. With the hours I was working and never getting consecutive days off or any weekends, I had no work/life balance and I was constantly tired, which made it hard to make time for any socialising.

Pros

Some beautiful products, I work with lovely staff within my store; a great team atmosphere however this is due to individuals not related to company. A respected and highly regarded brand by outsiders. I'm struggling to think of anything else.

Cons

Incredibly high turnover of staff, shockingly low salary, and huge blame culture from head office with shop staff being constantly targeted as bottom of the hierarchy, permanently understaffed at that, very target driven creating a stressful and aggressive atmosphere. Brand is sadly not staying true to Laura's vision and has lost its way with impersonal and bland designs and a lack of regard for its employees; merely caring about its precious figures. This will be its downfall; you can only rely for so long on your former image and heritage. Never received any praise for hard work. Management expected to work over contracted hours without being paid to do so. Actually questioned as to why I wasn't doing unpaid overtime! Threaten to formally investigate you if you do not meet their unrealistic MasterCard targets. Swap payroll to 4 weekly system without prior warning and put you on incorrect tax code you are then told to correct yourself in your own time. This means you are paid random days each month making bills and direct debits a nightmare to keep up with. A demoralizing work place rated one of the top ten worst companies to work for in the UK.
