Pros

Some people were really lovely, friendly and helpful. Sample safe particularly home furnishings. 9am-5pm.

Cons

I was excited to be joining Laura Ashley as I believed it to be a prestige brand with great history. Unfortunately, my excitement was quickly replaced by disappointment during my time at the company. The head office is in a dire state. The office gets really cold during winter. Staff are forced to use the portable heaters which don’t do much. Some people end up getting ill. Unfortunately, there’s no sick pay for the first 3 days. There is no investment in staff or the facilities. The carpets, chairs, computers and systems are so old. Even the processes are old. People are so used to doing things a certain way. The staff turnover is incredibly high. People leave every week. I witnessed so many great staff leave with their knowledge and experience. There are so many new faces every week. The head office is called the revolving door because of the amount of people that join and leave the company within a short time. There’s no flexibility. Staff are ruled by the clock. There’s no reward and recognition. You could be great at your job but don’t expect to be recognised for it. People basically stop trying because there’s simply no point. There hasn’t been any pay review. The management don’t seem to genuinely care about the staff that work for them. If you’re thinking of joining the company, I would advise you to don’t unless you’re after some experience. It’s a shame because they have a great brand with great history. They need to do more for staff

Pros

Good staff discount which is helpful you like the products

Cons

There is so much potential and heritage in the Laura Ashley brand but nobody in management seems to act upon it and invest time and effect into making it successful again..this is a real shame! There is a very fast stuff turnaround, as management treats people poorly, long unpaid hours of overtime, the salary are low and there is no possibility of career. Employees are treated like numbers just like in an oriental sweat shop. I truly hope that the company goes under so maybe the brand will have a chance to flourish again with new owners and management!

Pros

There is an absolutely amazing team feeling and everyone "on the floor" work so hard in very small teams and long hours and have this hope to build the brand up to where it should be. The brand has amazing potential. Great staff discount and staff sales.

Cons

There is absolutely NO recognition of the staff that works so hard, no feedback system and no Vision communicated from management; to the staff on neither long or short term strategy. It changes every time the management fails to reach figures again. And who gets the blame, the hard working and very experienced and knowledgeable staff (in most cases , although some have given up and just cruise). How can it be that 3 managers and their manager , that has been there for 7+ years and have managed to rack up a staff turn over more than 70%, can still put the blame on the staff. It is incredible that the investors swallow it year after year ? Well they did move the knitwear department to a Singapore office and made the staff in UK redundant and taken one of the 3 managers off the job. They should all have gone years ago, they are completely accountable. And do not count on travelling, the 2 managers take all the best trips for them selves too. It is totally unprofessional. They have lost sight of their customer and they have no vision for attracting a new one. The pay is more than awful and there is no sick pay, in an office, where there is floods into building and under 10 degrees (illegal) in cold winter months. People come in with coughs and colds, cause they don't get paid, its not a great environment. Management has no drive and the way of working is old-fashioned , as is the processes and the equipment. If you are an ambitious person, do not go there...
