Cons outweigh the Pros

Pros

Good break allowance. Coworkers friendly for the most part.

Cons

Low pay for what is expected of you, which is A LOT in the home department. Managers unapproachable. Store manager does not appear to do very much work and is constantly on holiday. Too much pressure to sell Mastercards; not only is it time consuming and embarrassing when they get declined, I felt very uncomfortable selling financial products. Employees given contracts that do not reflect their actual hours to save the company money on benefits (smaller amount of holiday pay and uniform allowance relative to how much you actually work). Paper clock in system that only pays you for your expected hours as opposed to your actual hours (stayed 10-20 minutes late unpaid frequently). No room for advancement. Irregular schedule and amount of weekly hours. Little positive encouragement, especially from management. Head office out of touch with employees. Only motivation is to work hard is fear of reprimand, so not much incentive to go above and beyond. Products are cheap junk that are overpriced then constantly marked down- This leads to angry customers because they find out they could have got a better deal on the thing that they purchased if they would have waited a week, employees look bad because they do not know in advance when and what discount the sales are going to be. All of this has lead to the employees being apathetic.

Pros

Nothing good to say - poor

Cons

Weak HR staff. Malaysians run company. Won't remploy someone once they've left - even if they were fantastic employees & moved temporarily from area. Very short sighted. Pay & conditions abysmal. Laura Ashley must be turning in her grave
