      Pros

      Koch pipeline will give you incredible opportunities for a new college graduate. Within 2-3 years you will be managing multi million dollar projects. There are a lot of really good people that work at Koch pipeline.

      Cons

      There are several fundemental problems with working at Koch pipeline. First and foremost there is a toxic office environment that encourages people to talk the cultural talk "MBM mouth breathers" rather then actually accomplish anything. If you can use buzzwords and read any book Charles Koch has written you will move ahead quickly. Unfortunately this means all of management are yes men with little real work experience and are not helpful to you in resolving issues or problems. The turnover rate is horrendous during my time there in a little over three years we went through 13 project managers. It's not uncommon for the most senior project manager to have less then 3 years of work experience. Add that to the fact that being held accountable only works for the project managers; business, accounting, and operations are not held accountable for any changes made during the project process. Pay is less then average for the industry and bonuses based on "marginal contribution" are little to nonexistent. Do not be fooled by the sales pitch that you have unlimited earning potential or your bonus can be as high as the value you create THIS IS NOT TRUE. If you are interested in working for Koch Flint Hills Resources seems to be more stable, pay better and have higher bonuses.

      Pros

      Koch is a privately held company which results in longer term decision making rather than just trying to look good for the stock market. This isn't a company that quibbles about a $5 business expense as long as it was a legitimate expense. Many good people work at Koch Pipeline which makes it rare to not get along with someone. You are typically given a lot more decision rights and freedom than most companies. They pay decent, but certainly not top scale for the industry. The benefits are typical for a company of this size. However there is a company-paid pension after you've worked there 5 years. The core principles and business philosophies are sound and strongly advocated by management. They are treated as more than just words on paper.

      Cons

      Koch is not for everyone, you really have to understand and buy-in to the culture or it may be difficult to integrate successfully. Work/life balance is not great and definitely doesn't feel like a concern to management. Any concerns raised about staffing levels is met with a response that you need to do a better job prioritizing and to find ways to complete your work more efficiently. It seems like people are constantly being "let go". Unless you are fresh to the company a lot of my coworkers are unsure of their job security. They are constantly changing the companies operating structure. If they actually decide to keep you around during this odds are that you are now in a role doing something you find little fulfillment doing. Management seems to operate on fear. They want you to think that you are not safe in your job unless you raising the bar on yourself every single day. You are told that it is going to be difficult to argue for a raise for you and don't expect a bonus. They do a great job of making good people feel like they are just not good enough.

      Dead end tax attorney role.

      Sophisticated, challenging tax work that will stretch your ability to analyze complex issues.

      Cons

      Toxic culture. The only thing I can compare this experience to is an abusive relationship. You can expect to be emotionally abused, ignored, disregarded, publicly shamed and humiliated. The work is highly interesting, but at some point the abusive culture outweighs the interesting tax issues. This is a miserable, depressing environment to work in. You will also be told that bonuses are 50% - 100% of your base in the recruiting process while the reality is they are more in the 7% - 30% range depending upon how long you have been here.
