Pros

Fun job. You have a job.

Cons

Inconsistent enforcement of standards. Pressure to produce leads to employees taking risks.....including the risk of termination....

Pros

It's a quiet place to work and it's as loud or stressful as a place that does more business.

Cons

They're sinking fast, so they put a lot of pressure on employees to push the loyalty card, credit card, and extended warranties, usually at the expense of customer service. Today, a good employee pushes the customer hard at checkout on all of these things and usually requires them to speak their phone number out loud every time they want a simple candy bar. Beyond being an invasion of privacy, it slows the lines to a crawl and makes the customer experience terrible. So, if you don't like invading others privacy and pestering them with questions long after they've said "no", then avoid Kmart. If you like helping customers find what they need and not betray their trust, avoid Kmart. If you want to have more opportunities than working 60+ hours a week in management, avoid Kmart.
