Pros

At this point in the retailers life there are no good reasons to work for this company. Senior management has absolutely no clue as to where their customers are coming from in regards to their needs and expectations when shopping. Upper management is only concerned with their bottom line and their bonuses and definitely not the customer.

Cons

Every kmart in the local area is understaffed, understocked, and what few staff you find actually working on the floor are not trained properly. Senior management seems to be more worried about associates solicitiing sears credit card appications than in actually doing something to insure that we have customers to keep us in our jobs. Sears credit cards are not going to keep this company afloat. On an average day a store is staffed with 1 person at the service desk, 1 cashier, 1 in clothing, 1 in electronics, 1 floater, 2 managers, 1 receiving and 1 misc employee. With staff totals like this you are expected to wait on about 1000 customers a day, keep the store cleaned, stocked and help train new employees that may only get to work 5 hours a week because everyone is part-time. Not to mention being threatened on a daily basis with being fired if you don't meet a sears credit card application quota. This is not a career move I would recommend to anyone.

Pros

Coworkers are great people to work with. The loyal customers that came to the store were great but the majority of customers were slobs, 90% of your day is just maintaining the store. Benefits were good. Pay is good as long as you negotiate well starting in (don't expect a pay raise after you start, it isn't happening).

Cons

No pay raises for last 4 years. Very threatening of your job if you are not performing o company average on rewards program and credit card apps, they have even fired many GOOD store managers because of their store not performing up to par. Way too many emails in a given day to go through with many of them sent from corporate and than resent by the dm or whomever else with their 2 cents put in. Can get anywhere from 100 to 150 emails a day. Expected to work 1 full weekend 1 weekend off and the rest are split weekend. Hours or management were a minimum of 48 hours but expect to work no less than 55 hours.
