Pros

Some departments have very nice facilities, financial stability, and enough conscientious faculty and staff to operate smoothly. State employer, so there are better than average 403(b) options and vacation/sick days.

Cons

The student population is definitely substandard, it is very difficult to recruit qualified staff to Manhattan, and there is a large tortuous bureaucracy invested in making itself relevant by routinely generating new arcane rules and regulations. The health plan is awful because there in no useful coverage in Manhattan, KS.

Pros

Good benefits, university was very good to work for.

Cons

Where I was working suffered from a lack of leadership and promoting people based on who had been there the longest vs qualified. The department needed new leadership. I left because of the old boy network that was intrenched.
