Pros

Housing and Meals part of compensation

Cons

Incredibly time consuming position with management always wanting more without incentive. Felt like a 24/7/365 job that was hard to balance school or a life outside of the role.

Pros

The job paid the bills. Good retirement plan if you can last through the waiting period to receive the match. Good benefits. Great resume filler. Companies like to see past employment with large organizations.

Cons

There were more people in positions who shouldn't be than I've ever seen in any other organization. How can one effectively manage or oversee what one does not understand? You don't have to be a subject matter expert in all areas but at least have a foundational understanding of job responsibilities. Group think drove me insane. The "we've always done it this way" mentality coupled with no initiative to do more work than necessary was and probably still is costing the university a lot of money, which it did not have. People performed processes without understanding why they were doing them which led to a lot of passing on of bad or non-compliant processes. Team work was a joke, there was a lack of ownership and authority between departments, and succession planning was non existent. If you enjoy day to day chaos, no work life balance, silos, and lack of leadership, KSU is the place to be.

Pros

Good people. Limited evening and weekend hours.

Cons

Zero budget. Resorted to selling scrap wire to buy tools. Wasn't allowed to hire my own staff. Was never asked to run shows. No summer job or pay.
