Pros

With only a few exceptions the people here are great.

Cons

Its common for the company to only do two annual raises every 3 years by pushing several of them out by 6 months at a time. This has been constant over the past 7 years so expect it to continue. Work and responsibilities are independent of title so you could be doing work well above your pay grade. The promotions recently have been for MUCH lower percentages and amounts than 5 years ago. There is a large disconnect between R&D and other departments which cause them to push completely unrealistic timelines and schedules and then get upset when they had no chance of being met. Base pay is low (10-25k below state avg) and we've had trouble for several years hiring new talent, because so few people will accept the terrible pay. It likely won't change until people start leaving, and even then it'll just lead to those that stay behind getting more work and new hires still not coming in.

Pros

Johnson Controls used to be a fun, good work life balance company to work for in IT. The benefits are good, and the people were good. This is no longer the case. The current leadership has gone done the path of outsourcing IT to infosys. There does not appear to be a strategic path. Entire teams have been outsourced, and vast amounts of knowledge have left the company. The work/life balance and great people are no longer at the company.

Cons

With the loss of so many great people, and the on-boarding of Infosys you can expect many long hours trying to resolve issue. Current IT morale is horrible, no one is motivated. Most of the Senior level IT Directors have resigned. The CIO has lost the confidence of the IT staff, and there are no senior leaders left that understand the unique systems at JCI. There will be no work-life balance until this situation is resolved. This is based on what's been happening in the first half of 2019. It possible they will see the error of their ways and try to right the ship later on. For right now, if you are in IT, I suggest you work anywhere else but here.

Pros

Nice office with good views of Cork city.

Cons

In my department poor management and no transparency. For a graduate program there is very little structure around progression and some people have been graduates for more than 3 years with very little industry training. Pay is remarkably low compared to the rest of the market, no bonus structure, miniscule yearly increase which was sometimes skipped, no shares, poorly subsidised lunches. Management appear to be detached from the work of their subordinates.
