Pros

Wide-ranging company benefits Market-beating hybrid Final Salary Pension Regular breaks Great Senior Management Board

Cons

Atrocious Pay Bandings/Structure - Nearly impossible to move up the pay scale Long hours Few rewards for going above and beyond Poor Talent Development Programme Section Managers are hugely overstretched and although well-intentioned, they do not have enough time to line manage their partners Far less social than in previous years Stuck in the past ---> Incredibly hierarchical Poor Middle Management Easy to get stuck in a role without career advancement

Few opportunities for progression

Pros

Excellent democratic structure that you can actively get involved in, meaning that you really can make a difference. Generally good rotas for retail. If you work in an older store you can expect 50% of weekends off however many new stores are opening where you will work most weekends. Excellent employee discount and profit sharing is always well received - generally works out to somewhere in the region of 6 weeks salary.

Cons

The business is very conservative and is scared to radically modernise for fear of upsetting older customers, unfortunately this means that the younger customer is not being attracted which long term will have an impact on sales. Working full time you will be expected to work long hours. Sometimes people employed into management positions aren't the correct people for the job. Section Manager workload is so high that you won't complete everything in your working day, expect to go in on your days off or take your work home with you. Section Mangers are underpaid and overworked, unless on the graduate scheme where salary is significantly improved. Jobs above level 8 (Section Manager) are fiercely competitive, it is rare these jobs become available so progression is usually slow. Don't believe the quoted time of 5 years to steering group (equivalent to assistant head of branch).

Pros

bonus is always a plus

Cons

a happy worker is the best worker and the majority of the people I work with are unhappy they only stay because of the free cash they get in march every year (dangling a carrot) bad it system, no fairness across the whole site , some management don't deserve to be managers as they only got where they are because of their face fits you have more experienced and better mannered partners or staff as some partners have been told on the warehouse floor, the so called managers think they are better than everyone else but they do not respect or show any gratitude to the actual partners that do the work I personally think that the company could save a load of money but not having as many managers as they have got
