Terrible leadership, no career paths

Pros

Nice office, good perks (unlimited PTO, happy hours in office, etc)

Cons

Leadership is terrible. Management avoids tough decisions and doesn't set top down vision and goals, so priorities change constantly and everything becomes a fire drill. Levels and comp are extremely inconsistent across the company and between Walmart/Jet. No career paths for mid or junior level folks, very little opportunity to advance. Tons of good people leaving.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. I couldn’t agree more; our office view and perks can’t be beat! I am concerned to see your feedback about our leadership team and career pathing opportunities. We hold our leadership group to the highest standards and know change can be difficult to deal with. We have been working on improving our strategy and execution processes while balancing adapting to our everchanging ecommerce landscape. I am sorry to hear this is causing you to have a less than ideal experience with us. Regarding career pathing, we feel growth is a very important part of your journey at Jet. If you would like to discuss your career path, please let me know and I would be happy to do so. If you have any other feedback or would like to discuss any of this in more detail, please don’t hesitate to reach out. - Diane V.

Pros

The people that work there are incredible and by far the best part of the company. I ended up making a lot of very good friends there that will continue to remain as friends. The building is great! Free snacks and a nice marketplace to buy drinks and more snacks. The cleaning service does an amazing job with the building. Growth options are possible. You should get to a technical department ASAP to experience it though. Even then, it won’t happen near as fast as it did in the past. There are guidelines to do your job but many guidelines are blurred to allow you to do what you need to do to take care of a member or employee. Lots of freedom in that aspect. They really do empower each employee to do their job in whatever way it needs to be done. Leadership is always doing side-by-sides and/or one-on-one meetings to help you with your job and you personally. Not a lot of leadership in companies do it as often as Jet. Sometimes it’s to go through the motions but, depending on the leader, it is very genuine because they care about you and your success. Time-off options are great. They just changed the format to be a straight accrual but we had all 128 hours available for use immediately and accrued on the backend, to keep you accountable if you quit or were terminated.

Cons

One word: Walmart. The acquisition was official in October 2016 and everything went downhill from there. 2017 was a trying year for everybody. Jet tries their hardest to be what makes them great but Walmart doesn’t allow them to fully be Jet. The core values are Trust, Transparency and Fairness. Jet tries their hardest to live by those values but a lot of times, they just can’t. Employees blame Jet but it’s really Walmart driving that. Sad to watch but that’s what happens when a Fortune 1 company like Walmart acquires a company like Jet. Hopefully they realize what they’re doing to Jet because Jet truly is amazing, when Walmart isn’t involved. The purple lobby wall was being touched up once and someone walked by and said, “I thought they were painting that wall blue and yellow for a second.” Walmart’s favorite saying is “This is the way it’s been for 10 years.” They are so stuck in their ways that it makes working with them purely irritating. They never entertain any idea of changing something. With every job, frustrations happen so you need to identify who you can trust and stick to that group exclusively for any type of venting. There’s people there that will turn around and tell someone in leadership what was said which makes you look bad. VERY political workplace. Seems like the systems are always having some sort of trouble, especially the phone software called inContact. Jet is one of their biggest accounts but there is always some sort of issue happening. All the other systems are created by in-house engineers and they seem to be having troubles a lot too. Going off of that, the manager turnover rate the last two years is up close to 50%. Managers. Not supervisors. Managers. That rate is including those who quit, were fired or just simply pushed out. There also have been supervisors that were offered a very large sum of money to leave the company. Benefits used to be great but they have changed twice in the last two years because of Walmart. The benefits are terrible now. Don’t expect to have a copay with these benefits. Doesn’t exist. I had a great experience and learned so much while working at Jet. My resume was strengthened and I learned how to be a professional. I wouldn’t take any of my experiences back. #workpurple

It sounds like overall your experience was positive, you learned how to be a professional, and were able to build that resume. That's awesome! We love giving our JetHeads the empowerment to help the customer and do the right thing. We’re glad you recognized that there are growth options; growth comes in all sorts of ways: position, experience, and stretch assignments. It’s true! We were acquired by Walmart in September 2016 and integrating into a new company can be a lot to take in. Honestly, at the end of the day, being acquired by Walmart has provided stability and fueled Jet forward into a new innovative strategy. It sounds like you had a few bad experiences where your trust was broken and I’m sorry to hear that. We pride ourselves on being a workplace that can allow you to come and speak with anyone in management about any issue without fear of retaliation for those thoughts. We want people to be able to do this in the future so if you feel like part of the process is broken please feel free to reach out with ideas. Unfortunately, we are not able to disclose reasons why certain individuals leave the company. People can leave for all sorts of reasons: new opportunities, relocation, life changes, and even performance issues. However, we make sure to give every opportunity to the individual so they can address these correctable issues. Our benefits have changed over the years, as they can with all companies. With any new benefit plan there is give and take. While we may have changed some benefits from our plans, they are still very competitive in the marketplace. Overall though, we think our new benefits are a WIN- WIN! Benefits associates now have access to that they didn’t have before are things like: bonuses, higher PTO accruals based on tenure, associate stock purchase plans, 401 k match, Walmart discounts, and the list continues. Pros

Jet used to be a great company that practiced their values. There are no pros anymore. I have no faith in this company.

Cons

Jet used to be a wonderful company with an incredible vision who had two great men running the Salt Lake team. Now the Salt Lake team is ran by people who only have an interest in stuffing their pockets and trying to get away with shady business practices. Great managers and Supervisors are constantly threatened they will lose their jobs for reasons that are unethical. When said managers and supervisor finally have had enough the message to the floor is they "resigned". Don't bother going to HR. Everyone on the team was "hand picked" and came with a specialty in managing by creating fear and forcing people out. There have been countless wrongful terminations and cases resulting in the Labor Commission getting involved. Retaliation is constant and nothing is ever confidential. The Jet team is a dying breed. We now have more agents taking calls for Walmart.com in the building than we do actual Jet agents and no plans to increase Or promote anything on the Jet side. A large group of folks just came out from Walmart's call center in Houston to help train Jet teams how to take Walmart escalations. Little do those poor Houston folks know the plan is to close their call center leaving all those people unemployed. The list goes on..

Thanks for your review and I will try to address your concerns the best that I can in this space. I am new to the organization, but have a great deal of confidence and trust in our management team to do the right thing. We strongly stand behind our zero-tolerance policy for lying, harassment, discrimination, bullying, and retaliation. If you believe this is occurring, there are many confidential ways to report it. We see the incremental expansion of some Walmart business into the Utah Jet facility as great news that has and will continue to create new roles and career opportunities for our team. We appreciate your feedback and are always looking for ways to improve. I am just completing focus groups with all our teams to gather feedback and encourage you to message me directly so I can research and address your concerns. - Howard S., Director of Member Services
