Pros

You get to meet a lot of smart and talented engineers. You also get to work on the most advanced medical device in the world. Lastly, you learn a lot from a company going through growth pains.

Cons

No consideration of work-life balance due to 6 day a week work schedule, management gives empty promises, layoffs come out of nowhere, no structure and DOP's/SOP's not followed through by most people. It's hard to work and get things done when requirements are being changed over and over and management and HR are biased toward certain few people.

Toxic “Leadership”

Pros

The technology is one of a kind and life changing. Most people that join were sold on the technology and corporate mission, however, that is far from reality in your region.

Cons

Very few good managers who can call themselves leaders. Most are toxic and are in the “boy’s club”. We all joined and knew the challenge, work hours, lack of work/life balance, but nobody signs up for a racist, demeaning, biased, hypocritical boss. Your manager will directly impact your quality of life here more so than any other job. While they demand one set of expectations, corporate and others will demand another set. There is no consistency. If you are on the black list for any reason, you are on it. It’s an intense and high feedback culture- which they advertise proudly BUT they use the same “intense and high feedback culture” to allow for managers to cut you down and keep you down because of their personal biases. Feedback with good intent is one thing, but if it’s not constructive and it’s to push you out, then you’re on your way. There are very few leaders here. There are bright, capable, and selfless people who work here, but know that they are capped out at their position. A management level position is reserved for the “good ol boy’s club”. It’s like a fraternity trying to act professional. The lack of authenticity is truly astounding. To see a manager treat each employee based on their ranking in the club is disgusting. If you’re looking to join for the mission, technology, senior leadership team, benefits, etc., you are among the majority. But you will soon realize the toxic work culture this place has. When you’re working hard with 12 hour days consistently and wearing multiple hats, manager and director level management are sitting back and riding off the coattail of CSR’s. Reps will do the majority of the work and management will ride home with the money. If you’re a white male, you’ll have a better chance here. If you’re in any way apart of the “diverse” group, you will be a quota they try to reach and then you’re gone. If you bow down and suck up to your direct manager on a daily basis, you might, and I want to emphasize, you MIGHT just “survive” here. Find me one sales rep who’s in good standing without sucking up to the bureaucracy system they have in place. It’s a burn and churn place and a shorter life cycle if you’re not a white male. Those who sell their souls to withstand the verbal and mental abuse, I know you got families to feed, but those that live their lives with integrity, you will be morally conflicted here. I’m looking at you east coast sales team.

Pros

Great technology, market leader in robotic surgery. Mission driven organization, Executive level leadership are humble and aspirational. You get to interact with high-performing and intelligent surgeons on a daily basis if you’re in the Field. Lots of opportunities to jump to different divisions from Commercial organization aka “Jungle Gym”. Generous ESPP.

Cons

Medical Device company that wants to transition into Medical Technology, but still has many of the outdated mindsets and practices of typical Med Device. Executive leaders CEO, COO are very impressive, but middle management is a hit or miss. Clear that there’s a diversity gap in the Recruitment, Commercial, and Commercial Learning teams. Awkward for high-performing BIPOCs/ Minorities -You will feel left out, but be patient as you will find support from others who are also going through the same experience. To thrive here, you will likely have to conform to the typical Med Device successful profile (very stepford wife/husband). It’s not quite as bad as Stryker’s sales reps’ lack of diversity , but definitely has a lot of room for improvement. They hired a new I&D VP, perhaps she will focus more on improving the diversity at the FRONT LINE level (Reps, Managers, Etc). It all starts with recruitment … don’t think the current employees don’t notice your last CAST class being 98% Caucasian, or that your surgeons and staff are a diverse group of people and your reps aren’t? Very strange and definitely not representative of the population. 401k is dismal.
