Pros

The pay, snacks, subsidized lunch, coworkers.

Cons

Consistent lack of planning means working 7 days a week and sometimes 24 hour shifts. The senior leadership is clueless to the abilities of their own technology and opted to layoff 33% of those that could improve it across the board. How a group of investors could fund this venture after seeing what the exact same leadership team did to Treehouse is beyond me.

Pros

Inspiring mission, cool robots, good location, nice salary

Cons

You'll hear the word "design" a lot when leadership talks about how important it is. But as time went by, it was clear that this was not the case. Sure, the brand design was important, the marketing design was important, the industrial design, architectural design was important (and in fact, it's quite beautiful)...but UX design was not put on the same pedestal. UX design was not well integrated into "design" at ICON. In fact, it felt like we were seen as a bottleneck to progress, our work only being worth something when it was developed. And yeah, our work does need to get developed, but how are you helping that happen when you take our dev resources away to work on a marketing site after you paid a company a good amount of money just to disappoint you with it? Despite having no dev resources, the UX team did a phenomenal job of getting ahead of them to start full force the next year. A whole new suite of software, new design to match the redesign that hit us out of nowhere, a very thorough design system, product strategy against all odds. I'm proud of the work we did, but because of the division in design and what seems like personal issues at play, our team did not get the credit it deserved, and were not given the chance to shine. Instead, we were let go, and our managers had no idea and were given no say. Despite the amazing mission, this is still a startup just like any other. It's a business, never forget that. I did.

Pros

Unlimited PTO, Pay is decent, lots of free snacks and meals.

Cons

Jeez, where do I start? The 3D printers, so called “robots” don’t work. The employees are working 10x harder than the robots and literally FORCING the robots to work. Constantly breaks down and needs repair 80% of the time. Cement constantly clogging the machines, hardware breaks daily, and design gets worse and worse. You can find a more reliable printer on Amazon. Company has very high turnover on all levels. Some common issues such as lack of leader, broken processes, unclear direction, and if you work outside of the office, it’s very labor intensive and dirty. None of the leaders here are tactical nor strategic. They can only see what’s in front of time. For some time, my manager didn’t even know who he reported to or get clear answers from HR on performance evals. CEO sends out videos telling employees they need to do whatever it takes to make certain projects work, otherwise company could go down hill. Only reasons why projects are even getting completed is because headcount and lots of money is being thrown at it. Nothing has been profitable so far and it looks as if nobody knows how to run a simple budget book. NASA contract? To the moon? The team leading this has had ZERO progress and is being led by either new grads or construction workers who probably know nothing tighter than a 1/8” tolerance. STAY CLEAR! Icons projects take much longer and requires more efforts compared to traditional construction. There are other companies out there that are much more advanced than Icon
