House of Cards.

Pros

Benefits, salary and the people at the beginning, which slowly eroded as they threw away cash like I’ve never seen before. Truly made me sick how investor money was wasted on trips, parties and ego.

Cons

It’s a House of cards. Lying about cost and numbers to make it fit the narrative. Un honest and incompetent leadership. Unrealistic expectations, careless decision making. Anyone with any sense is forced out or laid off. Bunch of yes men to the white hat in the ivory tower. Cult like. Most execs and upper management are his friends that have no business being in their positions. Fake it to you make it our run out of money. Not the first company the white hat has ruined and probably won’t be the last.

It's a Startup!

Pros

This company is a startup. A rather big startup, but still got the startup vibe. CEO is evangelical, an excellent salesman. Has brought in a ton of investment. He trends quite visionary, especially in the aesthetic domain. It is a good place to get your feet wet. We embrace big technical challenges. Per true startup style, an enterprising person willing to put in extra work can rise in the organization. Hard work and long hours are appreciated. And sometimes mandated, though the official 6 days/week requirement didn't work out so well... Come join us. The hiring process is a bit opaque and confused. We go through HR folks pretty regularly. Call back, use your inside contacts. Good luck, and see you soon!

Cons

Velocity is our motto. Chaos is our middle name. We embrace it. We reorganize. We change our toolchain. We layoff and fire, then we hire. We ride! Design-oriented CEO is less competent in the engineering/technical domain. Our robots are serious engineering/technical stuff. Company culture is a personality cult, revolving around the CEO. He wears a white cowboy hat. Always. The small "executive" huddle who surrounds the CEO worships the white hat. Only the CEO wears a white hat. No one else would dare.

A once-inspiring mission being lost to ego

Pros

Many of us joined this company deeply inspired by its mission, using technology to reduce the housing crisis. The work itself is meaningful and the talent here is extraordinary: smart, passionate people who genuinely believe in building something that matters. There was once a strong sense of shared purpose, innovation, and the belief that we could do good through our work.

Cons

Unfortunately, that original spirit has eroded. The company is struggling to transition from a scrappy startup mentality reliant on maximum effort at all times, to a sustainable, well-led organization that plans, prioritizes, and uses their human capital wisely. Leadership demands more and more while offering less and less consideration to employees in return. The CEO has dug in his heels to a culture of exhaustion and optics rather than alignment, ownership and trust. The latest decision mandating six days a week in the office, is the clearest example of how disconnected he has become from the people he is entrusted to lead. What could have been a turning point toward maturity and focus has instead truly demoralized the team and triggered a silent domino effect that will make success an uphill battle. Tragically, it’s likely the damage will only be recognized when it’s far too late.
