All form, no function

Pros

Most folks you meet are pretty friendly and genuine despite overall morale being at an all-time low Quick to promote, which could also be seen as a con in some ways Compensation was decent before the bonuses were taken away (pro tip: shiny stickers are definitely NOT bonuses)

Cons

Nearly everyone in senior management thinks they're a celebrity. Many managers and executives walk around like they're on a red carpet but forget that they're just employees at an unsuccessful construction company. Too much focus on form has led to incredible deficiencies in function. Engineering at ICON is driven by appearances. Solid technical ideas are constantly blocked by designers who only care about how the printer system looks on Instagram. How many executives do you need? It seems like every couple of weeks they're posting a new executive-level role. They come up with titles nobody has ever heard of and place "VP of", "Executive", or "Director" in front of it followed by an unreasonably high salary for an unprofitable startup. It always felt like the answer to problems at ICON was to hire more directors. Have you ever seen a pile of money on fire? That's what it feels like to work here. If you want a simple raise with your elevation in title, good luck! However, if you want to smoke millions of dollars on company trucks that don't get used, software subscriptions, consultants of every kind, materials that end up wasted, etc., then this is the place for you. In 2022, they experience artificial growth like you wouldn't believe, "growing" from ~150 employees to nearly 500 in <1 year with no active projects and $0 profit. This is just one of MANY ways senior leadership displayed their complete lack of foresight and disconnection from reality. Do you like to work all month and never see your family? If so, put that application in today. The deadline is the only thing that matters at ICON, it does not matter if people have to work 15 hours a day or get injured on the job. It isn't abnormal to work 60+ hours back to back at ICON, you won't be compensated extra for it either. Overworking is encouraged and anything less is frowned upon. The "company" just isn't what it used to be. Half of the concrete batched ends up getting pumped into a dumpster, the positive culture is gone since the mass layoff earlier this year, trust in sr. leadership is non-existent, the bank account is drying up, the technology barely works, the list goes on. The concept was cool in 2020 but there are hundreds of companies 3D printing houses now. Essentially just another Musk company, don't waste your time applying. Oh, and "unlimited PTO" is NOT a perk, it just means you get a $0 PTO payout when you quit/get fired, even if you used 0 hours (good luck taking time off anyways).

Inexperienced leadership

Pros

Hardworking employees. Management needs a complete reset.

Cons

No way of integrating employees into a real culture and if you are a poc then good luck. C-level suite is full of inexperienced leaders, who have never led large teams before. Promotions being handed out left and right to those who clearly aren’t ready for it ( favoritism ). Layoffs were done in a brutal and disrespectful manner.

Pros

Cool projects and technology, good benefits.

Cons

Terrible management, monthly gaslighting meetings, unrealistic deadlines, unqualified people promoted to leadership positions, unannounced schedule changes, low wages, unsafe working conditions, the list goes on…
