Pros

- Decent benefits - Easy to obtain employment with Bachelor's Degree, and it is difficult to get fired - If you meet sales goals, promotion to Branch Manager can happen quickly. Hertz likes to promote from within.

Cons

- Expect to work 50+ hours per week, including Saturdays. Don't expect to take a lunch break, and taking time off for any reason is highly discouraged. - Only way to obtain pay raise is through promotions, which are awarded solely based on sales goals. Any other value that you bring to the company will not be considered. This would include but would not be limited by: providing excellent customer service, being reliable, working extra hours, cleaning cars well or at high frequency. - Management will not recognize good work outside of meeting sales incentives, in general. Non-monetary incentives for things like providing good customer service exist, but will not be awarded, regardless of eligibility. Periodically, upper management will focus on one non-sales aspect of the business to focus on. If you fall behind on the focus item, you will be punished; if you do well in that aspect, you will not be rewarded in any way. - You will wash cars wearing dress clothes. At many locations, car cleaning location is just an uncovered area, like an alleyway, with a water hose and vacuum cleaner. - Company philosophy is to "do more with less". Constant layoffs at corporate offices, which means less support to resolve various issues. At rental locations, reduction of workforce is achieved by not replacing terminated employees. Supplies needed to complete tasks are routinely not available, for example, cleaning supplies to clean rental cars. - Expect to run a location by yourself during the most busy times. A list of all that needs to be done by yourself on the busiest days: cleaning vehicles, answering phones whenever they ring, closing the location to pick up and return customers, working the rental counter, inspecting vehicles, doing routine business paperwork. - Never count on a bonus at this company. The incentive structure changes pretty much every quarter. Hertz will use every trick that they can think of to reduce bonuses. - You will get yelled at a lot at this job. Everything from complaints about dirty or damaged vehicles to complaints about billing policies.

Pros

Great pay for Assistant and Branch Managers, also a company car and free gas if you make it to a Branch Manager Position.

Cons

Emotionally detached upper management, long hours (60+ a week). Constantly being verbally and emotionally abused by some of the rudest customers I've ever come across. I've had to wash cars in an extremely hot public garage, in the required dress code of a business suit, sometimes alone before 6 am when there were homeless people present.(I'm female) Not enough fleet to meet reservation demands. I was constantly pressured to "hard sell" by upper management, and constantly had my job threatened if I did not meet their expectations, I even had one Branch Manager tell me, "In order to meet your goals, and sell to every customer, you have to do some shady things." And also being made to feel like I was worthless scum, both by snotty, narcissistic customers, body shop and dealership employees, and Branch and City Managers on a power trip. I'm usually a very upbeat and optimistic person, but after I got myself financially invested with a new car and a home while working at Hertz, I'd never been more unhappy. I'd have to say the three years while working there were the worst and most emotionally draining in my life. Also, forget about a life outside of work. Living in a new city and just out of college, I had absolutely no time to make friends, and even if I had, I was so exhausted and emotionally drained at the end of each day, I wouldn't have been a pleasure to be around anyway.

Pros

The people in the team and that's all

Cons

The worst exploitation I have ever witnessed in the workplace. If you have any self value, you will quickly move on. Some teams are better than others but was I stuck in one of the worst. The people in the team were great but the way we were treated by the team leader and management was despicable. They have an in house physio which is just as well because of the chronic back pain caused by excessive hours and stress. There was no work life balance and the pressure was insane. I have been working for a long long time and I have never experienced anything like this before. This was undoubtedly the worst working experience in my life.
