Pros

The friends you make - we're all bonded in misery Staff discount is standard

Cons

I'd give 0 stars if I could Unsafe work environment (this is illegal and completely unacceptable) Unfair rosters - store manager works 8-5 most days with weekends off. Completely unfair to other management and also we need two managers closing at the weekends. The store is in such a bad way, we need the extra help Level of workload expected without proper staffing - staff constantly call in sick because they can't face working. Recently 3 were off sick due to stress leave. There's no leadership from the store manager. We're all left fending for ourselves and half the staff are new or are not trained properly Store management lacking in leadership - allowing inexperienced staff to run a store is just unintelligent. The store is the worst I've ever seen. Unless we have a strong and motivational leader at the helm we will never get out of the pit we're in The store is filthy- on a daily basis customers complain about the dirt and dust everywhere (fitting rooms, tills, floors, shelves and even on clothes) and staff have to listen to angry customers when the standard of cleaning is out of our control. We've mentioned this several times to management and nothing is done. Half the staff are getting sick due to the dirt in the store. There's a big hole in th floor of the stockroom which all of us constantly fall over. This is seriously going to hurt someone some day. Irish area team covering each others backs while the staff in store are struggling - excuses always given and no real action taken. This review isn't just to complain or give out this is a genuine concern for the welfare of the staff in this store. Get the store in a safe condition before someone really hurts themselves. Pros

The 25% discount, could be 50% very occasionally. The people you work with, in my case sales advisors are mostly good, fun and kind people.

Cons

Ever since I began my employment at H&M, I've had a terrible work/life balance. For those studying and working part-time, you will most likely have only 1 day off in your week if you're lucky. The hours you are rostered on are awful as a part-timer, I feel like I'm working the amount a full-timer works because of all the days I'm at work. Management at H&M is probably one of the worst management teams I've ever experienced in retail. Firstly, when you are first employed and go through the induction or read through the policies, you are told there is no such thing as a hierarchy in the workplace. That is a complete lie. There is definitely hierarchy, the managers seem to think they can treat the sales advisors like slaves. (*to be fair, it's not all managers, but the majority). Managers also have obvious favourites within each department which I find highly unfair. The abrupt switching of people to different departments is also extremely irritating. Many people aren't even notified that they've been switched to another department, let alone asked if they wanted to move in the first place. It makes people feel unmotivated for work and useless in the new department they've been allocated to. The hours we are expected to work are ridiculous for a retail job. 5:30am starts. Maybe on days where we know we'll have to cater to more customers and get a lot more done (e.g. boxing day sales) but not everyday?! There are also times where people are left out, there is definitely a high-school clique vibe at H&M, people group off and leave others out. The pay is okay, but when you consider how hard we work and how many hours we work, the money is not worth the work in a part-time position. Managers are also extremely disorganised, when they are notified of changes to availability, rosters etc. it's like what you say goes in one ear and out the other. I understand it's difficult to remember everything, but it's important that you do, because everyone has other commitments outside of work that NEED to be considered so that when it comes down to it, we're not the one copping the blame as we have given early notice. LASTLY, some managers as well as other employees are, straight up rude and inconsiderate. When you ask a fellow employee if they can help out or carry out a task, they simply say they don't want to and are really picky with what they want to do. It is unfair and childish. it's a job, you have to do what you have to do, not if's, and's or but's. Just bloody do it. H&M constantly reminds you of their 'values' which are hardly ever demonstrated in the work place. You'll see what I mean, if you decide to accept your offer after reading this giant cons section. I've gathered all of these cons in the span of only 2 months of working at H&M, so my advice to you is, find a better, smaller company to work for, you won't regret it.

Pros

Vacation accrual, sick time, ability to travel, internal promotions. The skills I’ve learned in my 10 year journey with the company has helped me feel more empowered and confident for other jobs that I apply for.

Cons

I spent almost 10 years of my life with this company. They will sell you out in a heartbeat. Claim to care about your well-being and growth as a person and an employee and it’s just the biggest bold-faced lie I’ve ever been told. They will give you empty promises and sell you short when a promotion becomes available. Two-faced rats. When there were times of triumph they were celebrated but as soon as things are negative or you don’t complete a task immediately, you are criticized and your shortcomings are blasted on a megaphone. The most unprofessional place I’ve ever had the dissatisfaction of working for. I feel sorry for folks who are still there.
