Pros

The people here are very nice. Everyone is very bright here unlike a lot of places nearby, so it is very nice to be able to have good long intellectual conversations if you like. If you prefer small talk, there's plenty to go around. People are supportive if you see them in person and act friendly. I guess some would call this southern hospitality but it is not rare here. I'm proud to work here at such a good employer and plan on being here for a while. The campus is looking nice with all the trees and grass most of the year, so it is a nice atmosphere.

Cons

Most of the faculty are very busy and it is difficult to talk with most of them. Finding time to talk to professors is near impossible unless you are their Ph. D. student, but that is sometimes hard as well. For their students, they do not always make themselves available and often takes several days to get any e-mail responses back about any issue. If you are the type to ask questions a lot, then watch out. There's also tons of construction going on all the time and it gets annoying when you don't know where to go to avoid traffic here. 14th St has been down for a while so everytime I have someone bring me to school, they have trouble finding it.

Pros

Very supportive community. Generally a good environment to work where a strong work ethic is valued. You don't need to "be seen" putting in long hours in the office per se. Instead it is more important that you produce high quality work in a timely fashion. This allows for a certain degree of flexibility that allows one to benefit from their own self discipline.

Cons

Must stay self motivated as there isn't someone there to pay you on your back after every big achievement. Also, money comes and goes with the state budget. Some years can be tight and some plentiful.
