Pros

Company is committed to health Company provides opportunity to make a real difference in what people eat High ethical standards Senior leaders listen to nutrition scientists Company has improved healthfulness of many products Pays more than any other job for dietitians

Cons

The Bell Institute is an "unusual" function at General Mills so many colleagues understand our role and may not appreciate the value we provide We work harder than people in other jobs -- longer hours, higher quality work expected Because there aren't many places for us to work in the company, we might not have as many promotion opportunities as product developers or marketers

Pros

Great amount of responsibility early on; Surrounded by smart people from top MBA programs who can create a strong network (you will need it); Can make an impact as a leader and bolster your resume to get headhunted by several other CPGs/marketing firms in more geographically desireable locations; Managers don't track vacation - more of an honor system as long as you get the job done

Cons

Tough learning curve for new hires; Can be challenging to maintain work/life balance especially dependent on manager; you have input but no real say in your rotation structure/management/projects; very difficult to make real friends or date as a transplant to the area (locals can be colder than the winters!)

Pros

Lots of benefits on site at the Headquarters such as the company store, gym, and Caribou coffee. They spend a lot of money on their employees. Everyone is very proud to work there. The company has pretty good leadership, which is why the company is still successful in this tough economy.

Cons

Very competitive. There is pressure to work too many hours, at the expense of work-life balance, even though the PR is all about employee happiness. Maybe they think that if they give you lots of free food you will forget that you don't like your job. There is a lot of tension between business units in terms of people treating anyone outside their group poorly. A very cliquey culture. As with any large company there is a ton of politics involved, and it is all about who you know. They pride themselves so much on being a great place to work that it seems almost snobbish.
