Pros

- Great benefits (healthcare, 401k matching, pension) - Hard to get fired (this is also a con) - Smaller company so a little more lax than extra huge corps - Individually owned, so a little more stable

Cons

- Hard to get raises once you're in the company, so try to get a good starting pay. The grading scheme "meets", "high meets", "exceeds" is highly based on how many high achievers are in your group. They can only rarely give out an "exceeds" and limit the number of "high meets" even if everyone is really good. - Hard to get fired. This is a good thing I guess, but what ends up happening is you get stuck with some people that really shouldn't be in the position they're in. I think HR doesn't want lawsuits so they do everything they can to not fire people.

Pros

9/80 work schedule is fabulous.

Cons

HR is here for the company only. Internal male candidates who move within the company seem to be getting a higher % then females. If receiving a promotion within the company, a significant % increase seems reasonable, especially for a long term internal employee. Offering a low percentage is not a promotion. Overall, low paying jobs unless you are ex military male who comes in from the outside.

Pros

Great technology Corporate Perks and retirement plans Co-workers were fun and made great friends Good company to put on your resume

Cons

Growth is very limited. No training programs for employee development, and the positions are very specialized - once you're in a position, you're pretty much stuck. When there is a position open, an external applicant has always been chosen over promoting from within. Very demotivating. Management will always ask you what your career goals are during the interview and during reviews so you'll think there is hope, but nothing ever comes out of it. Compensation is minimal for the amount of work you are expected to do. Especially for the worker bees who are rewarded a lot less, but are constantly stressed out to make other people look good. Employee morale doesn't seem to be a priority because there is always a line of people wanting to work at GA. If you're coasting to retirement, this is a good fit for you. Otherwise, don't expect any promotions and minimal pay increases in this department.
