Pros

Some co-workers are absolute gems. Most others are not.

Cons

Everything! Management is the biggest issue. They are so hands off, the staff was running wild. There were some real bullies on the team who threatened physical violence if they were angry with you about something. Usually its over trivial things. Too many people with huge egos. Management did nothing about the intimidation and it created a very toxic work environment. The overall environment was just so absolutely toxic and totally preventable. Promises were constantly made about raises and promotions. All promises were broken. There is no opportunity whatsoever to move up. Management dumps tons of work on you while they go on another vacation. Also it seems like management takes their vacations during the peak times of the season, leaving a small team behind to do massive amounts of work. Management promotes an open door policy however whenever genuine issues are brought up, it goes through one ear and out the other. It quickly became evident that nothing was going to change. You would have better luck talking to a brick wall then the Management team here. Flights are constantly late because of the lack of staff, lazy management, and drivers constantly interfering with packing operations. Drivers would come in, tear apart the carts to eat some food and leave the mess behind. Telling Management didn't help yet they complain that their higher ups are complaining about the late flights and tells everyone to work harder. Gate Gourmet Management is so brain dead and does not take any concerns into consideration. I really cannot express how useless Management here is. I would not recommend anyone to work here.

Pros

It is an interesting field to exist in and you will learn a lot about the aviation and culinary industries. The Reston office is incredibly diverse and many countries are represented, which is really cool. There are nice little monthly events that HR puts together to make you feel like they care for their employee well being. Sometimes we even get donuts. Since my position requires frequent travel to different GG Units, I have been able to meet lots of interesting people and go places I probably would not have gone on my own. There are a lot of opportunities to move up and around the company and many positions are filled from within. So if you do not want to remain in your department, but want to stay at the company, there will probably be an opportunity for you.

Cons

There are many problems that have been long-standing, that management knows about, and have planned actions to resolve, but nothing is ever done. The way our systems work, we end up doing the same work over and over. Errors that have been fixed somehow pop back up again. It becomes tedious and a little Hurculean real quick -- you know, pushing the boulder up the hill, just to have it roll back down , crushing you in the process, then doing it over again for all eternity, it's a lot like that. I am exhausted by the frustration and I am getting to the point of desperation. We are supposed to have set timelines to complete projects, but nearly everything I have worked on has been rushed. There is an expectation of working outside of office hours to complete this rush work along with the expectation that whatever is produced will be error-free. How they expect quality to be equal when you are given half the time to do it in is just a set up to fail. There is some "us and them" mentalities between the teams, resulting in miscommunications, delays, resentment, and blaming among other things. The disorganization is a killer.

Pros

Free food, free coffee, free drinks, salary and benefits are reasonable. But you are paying for it for basically its not a pro.

Cons

Lots of pressure, always asking for more with less resources, upper management do not listen to the real issues, head office is arrogant and tells you what to do, this is a company that shows no empathy for its people and never will. I was manipulated by management and set up for failure because they did not have the courage to tell me to leave. This is the worst working experience I ever had and Hr was not there to assist they only made my experience worse. Horrible people.
