Pros

The people are the reason and working for iconic brands can be exciting and challenging.

Cons

The leadership can't stick to a strategy for long enough to evaluate whether the strategy will work. They are big and want everything cheaper, faster AND better when anyone will tell you that you can have two but never all three at the same time. The effect of demanding all three from your workers and vendors is that you damage your partnerships.

Easy to move around within company.

Pros

Vacation time is quite generous. All HQ employees start with 4-weeks paid PTO. There are also many opportunities to move around to other areas within the corporation because each brand operates as a separate company within a company. (e.g.) Each brand has it's own president, CFO, finance & merchandising teams. The company encourages movement within the corporation approximately every two years to develop a well rounded skill set.

Cons

it is very difficult to take time off because deliverables are constantly changing. Most employees have a back log of accrued vacation time. For those who enjoy what they do and don't want to move on in their career, there is pressure to rotate to the next role in order to create opportunities for others.

Pros

Great people to work with generally. Store management was great. I was able to align myself with an up-and-comer and by working hard I quickly moved into management. Great if you like working in fashion and want to get a good working knowledge of sales. I was able to learn the ins and outs of selling Gap Cards, and eventually became the go-to manager in the district when it came to strategy and motivation around Gap Cards. All in all I felt like it was a good place to work where you got out of it what you put into it. Oh, and definitely an amazing discount to Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy.

Cons

Working in retail pretty much speaks for itself. Once you start in management it has a tendency to take over your life, especially in the months of November and December. Once you go exempt, it becomes very hard to not put in somewhat excessive hours. It really does teach you how to manage through your team though because its the best way to keep your workload within reason. District and Regional Management was somewhat out of touch with store management, and left much to be desired when it came to earning the respect of the store-level management and the sales associates.
