Pros

not bad pay for a sales associate. lively, friendly atmosphere. Made many friends with collegues. Staff discount was good. Professional management.

Cons

Hard work for the money. Store was ALWAYS messy no matter how many times you fold clothes. No recognition of good work. Long hours. The music was terrible and repetitive. Typical retail cons.

Pros

Gap has a pretty good corporate culture. It fosters creativity and teamwork. At least for my group, it does a good job of maintaining a work-life balance.

Cons

Although it is improving, the career development is somewhat lacking. Gap tries to foster an openness in looking within the corporation for job opportunities, but doesn't have a firm framework in place for those who want to change their careers. Gap is a fairly young company, meaning that most employees are probably in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties. If you can't seem to reach mid or upper-level management by the time you reach 40, I'm not sure if the Gap would be a good fit culturally.
