Pros

The office has a great location for commuters. The barista bar is a great added bonus, if you don't like staring at a Keurig spit you out coffee to start your morning.

Cons

Where do you start?. The culture is indescribable, but mostly boring like a chess match. There is no sense of unity throughout the company and it's as if each business unit is its own company, on multiple levels. Horrible Turnover Rate.

Pros

Opportunity to speak with KOLs in various fields but only at a superficial level. You are left on your own to do work a majority of the time. The new office space (Austin) design seemed exciting. The general teams (hedge funds, IBIM) seemed to very much enjoy their job and the company. Gentry is a great manager and an asset for GLG.

Cons

Unfortunately, the cons grossly outweighed any benefit that the company could provide. First, this job is not for anyone with more than 2 years of experience post-grad. If you have more experience, you will not learn any new soft skills which is what this position primarily improves. In addition, you will not be given any harder tasks or harder projects due to your experience. This is because frankly, there isn't anything that is very difficult. The learning curve is extremely short and then you will be bored. Second, avoid any of the positions that are directly related to an industry (healthcare, energy and industrials, technology media and telecom). These positions have some of the worst management in the company who simply do not have the ability to manage a team and nurture it to growth. The healthcare team in particular was losing team members quickly and ferociously due to a lack of management and appreciation (specifically from NY). Third, the payment structure is silly and the employee review portion is incredibly antiquated and inaccurate. You are asked to keep track of all of your accomplishments from the year and write them up in a meaningful way so that you even have a chance of a bonus. The managers only mention the most recent events which is the major downfall of employee reviews in the first place. There is little in the way of true constructive criticism.

Pros

- GLG is located in Central London, accessible through different modes of transportation. - Smart people. A bunch of very smart and talented individuals in the company that don't shy away from working hard. Very good vibes from most people.

Cons

The Headline is a statement mentioned by the head of a division in the organisation after they mandated employees to work from the office, 4 days a week. This is a policy that the CEO committed to not implement last year, verbally. Why should the employees trust the management? Who is running the show? If the goal of the management is to demoralise their employees in order to make everyone leave, then congratulations, they have accomplished it. It takes special skills to get people that have recently started working with GLG in the past few months, upset as well. The management of this company feels like the violin quartet playing on the decks of the titanic as it sinks. There is no vision, no direction to any decisions they have made in the past few months. I have personally had three different managers in the span of five months. The company has decided to "streamline" the business by integrating with the US, however, they are gradually eliminating ALL the perks that the employees had - Holidays during Christmas week, phone allowance, flexible working, having a dedicated project support team to schedule calls- all gone. Seriously, whoever runs the comms for this company needs to watch South Park. We are becoming every single corporate parody possibly imaginable with a management seriously out of touch with reality with everything happening on the ground, but doubling down on its heavy handed tactics to demotivate everyone. Throwing a party in a 5 star hotel with sushi platters isn't going to motivate anyone to work if it means demoting everyone's titles. We are the ones that bring business to the company but are made to work excessively, with the monthly salary being our only benefit.
