Pros

Our products help people regain health or, at least, let them avoid dying too soon. In my book it beats making stuff that takes consumers' money and / or lets them be lazy. Salaries are decent, if not spectacular. Big company has more stability than smaller ones. Medical device manufacturing is also more stable industry than IT or shrink wrap software. Experience working in regulated industry will make you qualified to look for higher-risk higher-reward jobs in start up companies. Managers with GE pedigree are also, for some reason, well regarded.

Cons

GE Healthcare is a big corporate bureaucracy, being on defensive, lately, against big government bureaucracy. Nothing will move quickly. Pushing paper was a way of life. Now paper is being replaced with intranet and electronic forms, which don't make it any quicker, just less transparent and less personal.

Pros

Great technology and the work you do helps people. It's very meaningful, and exciting to be on the cutting edge of technology. If you show initiative and have the data to support your position, you can do anything. The company is made up of many different P&L's, and each one has a different culture, so individual experiences can vary greatly based on the group and individual people.

Cons

Long hours. A lot of bureaucracy. Compensation is on the low side, and although recognition programs exist, not enough people take advantage of them. Sometimes the cutting edge of technology is a few years behind in this company, or the need to support existing platforms prevents us from doing truly great things.

Pros

Good opportunity to learn and develop skill set in a complex global business environment. GE experience on a resume is significantly valued in the job market. Good health benefits, solid base salary, pension plan and 401K match.

Cons

Not much feedback from many managers. Business so focused on meeting quarterly targets that staff development below executive or senior professional level often takes a lower priority. GE stock price down significantly over the past 8 years.
