Pros

First internships are generally lack the level of responsibility given to more seasoned interns, but don't be discouraged. A lot of your experience is dependent on your manager and the project work that coincides with your internship timeframe. Pay is competitive and interning places you in the pipeline for OMLP and EEDP programs.

Cons

First internships can lack enough challenging work and responsibility. If you are not proactive about seeking out your next internship you might be stuck in a similar situation.

Pros

Lot of focus on the development of college grads through various Leadership programs - if you can get in, I highly recommend it Good training opportunities, but again mostly for the LP participants Decent benefits Good starting salaries Travel abroad if you get on international projects Opportunity to work with a lot of people within the organization Great networking opportunities Professional atmosphere Process-driven / organized, this applies to the reviews which are normally very structured Good communication and flow down of information from the top

Cons

Somewhat political, after completion of the Leadership program you have to figure out what it will take to get promoted or what your career path is going to be Only 2 weeks of vacation to start off with Some of the office locations are terrible (mold, old furniture, even mice) - like the Evendale plant Move of training from classroom training to online With flat management structure, managerial positions are very limited TON of work - always more than one can handle Big push for outsourcing even where it doesn't make sense at all Due to outsourcing, lots of early and late meetings - 7am is nothing unusual

Pros

Descent benefits package Opportunities for education growth Able to work at home when necessary Descent talent pool

Cons

Managers can be two-faced, seem to care how good you make them look Executives are becoming more and more incompetent Reduction in workforce gets rid of long time working talent while keeping newer employees Yearly rating system is prejudice and flawed EEDP system may be great to get an education, but a joke when people are coming in and out like a revolving door. When one leaves their work gets piled onto your desk until the next one comes in. Managers will state family first, but then will ask you to work weekends and get mad when you say you have a family commitment. Executives stress casual overtime You have to either change jobs within GE or leave company to get a salary you deserve. Staying in same group over time makes you someone who doesn't want to grow throughout GE. Executives can't stay in their position more than a few years. Seems mandatory for them to bounce around.
