Very technical and encouraging environment.
Pros
Being treated like a professional from day one and not kept in the dark about any company business. Amazingly helpful peers who don't hesitate to help you. A true team work ethic. In close to a year of employment, I have not seen anyone get "thrown under the bus" over an issue. Pay is above average and benefits are fair. You are encouraged, if not prodded, to continue with your education. If you have an idea for an improvement you will be empowered to implement it. Management will not poach your idea. Salary pay. You manage your own hours for the most part. Have not had to work overtime once. Working remotely is commonplace. Almost seamless lateral movement within such a huge company.
Cons
Sometimes you work strange hours. Because it is a matrix organization structure, it's time consuming to figure out where to get answers. Dealing directly with customers and vendors can be troublesome and will affect your performance. Because it's a global company, you will not always have readily available access to content that other sites around the world have. Constant ITAR speed bumps even within the confines of GE. You cannot carry over vacation days from year to year. A lot of teleconferences. Sometimes entire mornings are spent sitting on the phone. HR is just plain slow or unresponsive after you get hired. After working for other aerospace companies, I fear ever leaving GE Aviation. ( I guess this should be in the "Pro" section).
