Trigger happy boss in NYC

Pros

Nice office, great downtown location, drinks in office and during lunch. If you play ping pong you will love break time

Cons

I honestly believe that the NYC boss wakes up every morning wondering whom he can fire next. Cliqy, “Mean girl” environment. Unprofessional team leaders who think they can close but actually hurt every potential sale. Their first sales “tactic” is to discount price so if you’re a potential buyer don’t pay full price. They are afraid of the competition which is a group of old employees that started their own company.

Pros

Met some amazing individuals within the company. Staff parties and incentives are good fun, definitely all smoke and mirrors to distract people from all the issues, but still may as well enjoy them. Good place to begin a career and gain experience.

Cons

Hire and fire culture, where no one is safe if it'll save the company a couple of pennies. You'll joke about the monthly "culls" with your co-workers through gritted teeth cus everyone's on edge, until you're let go yourself. Weird environment, lots of drinking and a bit of an excessive drug culture. Fast-paced doesn't begin to describe it. You'll be forced to drop everything you've been working on, according to the founder's whim, blamed when it doesn't work out, and then praise upper management for their better ideas - which were what you said to begin with. Everything is "Sell! Sell! Sell!" with very little awareness or even thought. Some clique-y groups of staff, but that's nothing compared to the weird inner circle thing that the founder has going on with his school friends turned spies. You'll totally lose yourself and your sense of morals. Product is kinda just... Nothing? Really cool tech that is totally underutilised but the actual events you're selling are basically pointless. I have developed an intense aversion to anyone walking behind me (especially if they click their fingers), it fills me with dread. Work-life balance is not much of a thing there. It's just a really odd place. Actually, you should get hired there just to experience the weird icky environment, it's indescribable.

Pros

Many of those on the sales floor are decent, fun people. (Management Excluded)

Cons

This company is run off the ego of one man and everyone else pays the price. Management, with few exceptions, are great in achieving sales numbers for themselves, but are hopelessly deficient in helping their teams do the same. Non-standardized performance monitoring leads to inconsistent turnover, specifically if you are friends with management you will benefit, be prepared to have a target on your back if not. This inconsistency has contributed to the management issues, forcing them to continue promoting those who are wildly unprepared to assume the role, and in some cases these are people who have never been responsible for closing their own deals.
