Pros

You learn a lot about communicating with different audiences and learning to be open to new perspectives. Plus the networking opportunities when you return to the U.S. are pretty good.

Cons

Unless you want to go into teaching you will have to frame your ETA experience in a creative way to get a job with a company when you return to the U.S.

Pros

You will forever change your prospective on the United States and your host country. You will meet and work with some of the brightest and most motivated individuals in the world and you will undergo a personal transformation that will improve the quality of your life going forward.

Cons

The 9-month research stints are too short and are imaginably so due to U.S. governmental budget constraints and tax payer investment into programs like this.
