Pros
It's a union position, so they will pay you a fair wage. Some of the coworkers are friendly and helpful from other departments. One needs to communicate with the other departments as there's only 1 worker/department/shift. They have community events for fellowship with coworkers (hotdog feed, bowling night).
Cons
I was never trained during my entire time there. During the interview I was promised 10 days of training. The manager was out substituting for the graveyard shift worker or called in sick. I was on my own having to decide what was the best way to stock the groceries. Again, I had 2 hours of on-the-job training when was told I would get 10 days/40 hours. There's usually 1 worker per shift. No matter how busy the day is. It's difficult for anyone when they first start, but its worse when you're alone. Nobody cared. I am nonsmoker therefore I got the breaks I deserved. Fine! But the smoking employees which were more than one-half the store would get a smoking break every hour. They were told that we need you to be relaxed. Smoking will do it. The nonsmokers have no reason to take the "extra breaks." Additionally, many of the workers would use profane language in the back room on a casual basis. Totally unprofessional. It's not a culture conducive to intelligent conversation. It's not good being a grocery clerk if you're a college graduate. The department manager was never there. You couldn't ask a question if you wanted to. They need to hire more employees. Having 2 employees per shift is reasonable. It's very hard to move up. It's not good working there as a clerk if you're a college graduate. I think they have a college management training program. Do this if you have your degree. There's 1 employee bathroom for store. They should have more.
