Pros

Great coworkers but that's pretty much the extent of it. PTO time is great, unless you get calls all day.

Cons

Anyone that is used to having processes and standards will have a hard time here. There are very few and when they do exist, they will change without warning. Work from home will be offered in the interview but was recently cut without warning. Management loves to bring in untested tools as the new current standard way of doing things but won't tell you how they should be used. But don't bring that up, because then you're not a team player. People that speak up will be pushed out, so nodding and smiling has become the status quo. If you like specs, then this place is not for you. Fidelis is the land of the nonexistent spec document. But don't worry, after writing your software over about 5 or 6 times, you'll get it right. This place has a lot of potential, but it will require years of suffering on the back of its employees. The work/life balance is something that's touted but not truly understood. You'll be demanded to put in long hours, work through holidays and when the project is completed, you won't even receive a thank you. The only way to enjoy a quiet day off is to shut off your phone. You will be called and expected to fix things that you had nothing to do with. Weekends exist in name only as well.

Going downhill, fast

Pros

When I first started at this company, I was extremely happy. We would have team building activities and morale was high. Over time, this slowly dissipated. The only thing that kept me going was helping the population we served.

Cons

Since the beginning of the NYSOH, things have gone downhill fast at this company. The constant pressure and raising of measurements has caused unbelievable stress. The continuously rising goal for marketing reps is forcing them to resort to tactics that go against NYS guidelines, however it's the only way to keep their job . The pool of uninsured is slowly drying up, so the marketing staff has to employ these tactics to maintain their quality measures. The company has not evolved their policies to reflect the fact that it is easier than ever to apply for insurance, and people are more likely to maintain their insurance in order to avoid paying a penalty. It seems that no one in upper management has thought to the future when all of New York has insurance, how will they measure quality? The company is trying to be a "nonprofit" and "grassroots" company, however the profits don't match up to what is being put back into the company. Trying to run a business with 1.5 million members as a "small business" has sacrificed quality for the members. The marketing staff is punished for the disenrollment, however it is not the fault of the marketing department. The company markets itself very well, but cannot back up the promises without investing money in the company. This means hiring more staff, instead of demanding more out of the dwindling staff that is left. Instead of working as a unified company, each region is compared and pitted against each other. Some offices have had new ice machines because the old ones were not keeping up to par.... while other offices have to pool their own money for a coffee machine, mini fridge and microwave. Some regions are turned down for marketing opportunities that other areas are participating in monthly. As for the Rochester office- the shenanigans that take place in this office are like nothing I have ever experienced. There is one person who uses their "power" to run the office, though they are not part of management. This person has been turned in multiple times for violations of HIPPA, and many have even witnessed mail and premium checks being shredded from those who do not play along with the drama. The management staff is completely aware and allows this to continue. This person makes it unbearable to work, no matter what department you are in. This has been taking place for years, and if someone stands up for what is right- mysteriously their mail will go missing, or documents will be misplaced. The management staff in this office really only cares about doing the bare minimum in order to keep their jobs. They expect the staff to work overtime, nights, and weekends to accomplish the ridiculous goals- however they are never available during these times and many are even able to have a second job- which is a luxury the lower staff could not afford as they are working non-stop for Fidelis. Employees have expressed interest in team building activities, such as business meeting picnic lunches, or holiday parties, but are shot down with no explanation.

Pros

Training opportunities now in place.

Cons

I have been employed by Fidelis for almost 2 years now.The first 6 months was great after that I was treated horrible until this day. I have been discriminated against and have been disrespected over and over again. The managers are very middle school. You cannot give your opinion without being label a problem because according to them be seen and not heard. I have complained to upper management and have gone to H.R NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE.
