Pros

The other new hires were fun to work with. Some brilliant minds to work besides Decent starting pay for software Food on Spring Campus is good

Cons

If it was possible, I would publish a 500 page paper on why not to work at ExxonMobil if you're in tech. Top 4: 1) Management is a joke. It truly felt they hired the least qualified people in so many areas of management. Terrible at relationships. Even more terrible with tech. Because they give you the option to "switch roles ever couple of years", your first line boss truly determines your future. If you first boss doesn't like you or reviews you poorly, say goodbye to your career. There were good bosses, but they were extremely outnumbered. 2) Wasting budget. So many teams went through "Agile" training and it was truly embarrassing to see Exxon get swindled into paying for such a long term engagement for something that takes other groups a couple of weeks to get nailed down. 3) Ranking, they rebranded it, but it's still the same draconic ranking system as before. It does not encourage people to work together or give credit when it's due. At the end of the day, it's all about ensuring your ranking is high enough. 4) Work from home policy, some roles require you to be in the office for equipment purposes, software for the most part is not one of them. I could hear my ranking slowly go down every time I asked to work from home.

Pros

Pay is ok and the benefits are above average

Cons

ALL decisions are made at the very very top so everyone underneath is just managing up. Performance management is forced distribution. Basically every employee is stacked against each other and the bottom 8% are offered a package to leave. This leads to a ton of anxiety with the workforce and makes daily life pretty terrible. There is nothing modern or progressive about the company. They don’t support work flexibility or remote work. It’s all very uptight and unpleasant.

Pros

Benefits, international work, possible global travel

Cons

If you are in GSC and if you don't have an engineering degree, expect to see very minimal salary adjustment the longer you stay. In GSC, a service company, you will be on the lowest salary curve (C curve) compared to A and B curves in 'money making' companies within EM. Don't expect much recognition either, since you are not considered as a business value driving organization. During the downturn, management kept telling everyone that 'no one is getting raises', but the executives and top performers were still being rewarded. Now, an influx of external hires are coming in at salaries 30-40% higher than existing employees, which leaves very little room for raises to those who put in the work over the years. The antiquated ranking system is very subjective and unless you've made 'sponsors' very high up and very early in your career, you will most likely fall into the middle and stay in the middle. Also, unless you say 'I'm a lifer' and unless you were flagged as a hypo (high potential) in the first 5 years - you will be passed over. Women are not promoted the same way men are - that is further evident by the embarrassingly low number of female executives are at the top. It's still a very much a good ol' boys club, where men are groomed for leadership position. What I&D... give me a break.
