Pros

Paid on time. Jeff. Fantastic trainer and a genuinely great and supportive guy. It's a shame the company isn't built on his values.

Cons

Low salary. Terrible holiday policy. 3 month notice period if you want to leave. Threatened multiple times that they wouldn't give the documents they are legally obligated to provide if I didn't do exactly as they want. Uncooperative and rude toward the company I joined after. Overworked. Terrible working environment. An overcrowded office with no windows, classrooms with no windows. People are constantly sick all year round. They lie in their advertisements. They lure you in under the pretence that you will be able to come to China and travel but the reality is you never have time. Your days off are Monday and Tuesdays and work hours are anti-social. 10 days of holiday a year is a joke considering you can't use them for 5 months of the year, speaking of which you are forced to work 6 days a week during and no additional pay. They don't care about the service at all, all they care about is how much money they can get out of the parents no matter the means. They have consistently lied and refused to give refunds when found out. Insanely high turnover off staff due to poor contract and poor treatment. The PA's are forced into telling lies constantly to parents, When people who gave 3 months notice left the company the parents were only told the day before they left. Excuses like a family member died or they are leaving to get married were used often. Promise everyone there are career advancement opportunities. The reality is there's not. With 1 position opening up are all 20 promised going to get the promotion? On top of that the contract is still laughable with almost no increase in benefits.

Pros

If you’re coming to China for the first time, EF is a great way to get settled into the country. For me, the culture shock was real upon coming into the country so it helped to have the support provided. The two weeks of orientation really helped to just have time to get used to the country, but as far as teaching goes, if you’re quite new, it still felt like being thrown into the deep end for me. You’ll learn and get better as you teach though. Curriculum and lesson plans are all organized and you’re encouraged to use games and interaction in class. What you learn here is really helpful if you want to continue in teaching. The work environment is really professional among Chinese and foreign staff, and there are events sponsored by EF year round if you want to take advantage of it.

Cons

Had to find our own apartments by our third weekend there. It was nice to have 2-3 weeks to do this, but still stressful.

Thank you for your feedback. We understand the challenges and stress of relocation to a foreign country. We are happy to hear that our orientation program made the adjustment a little bit easier. We're extremely proud of our teaching materials, and the ongoing training and support we provide our teachers, and it's great to hear that you value and appreciate these too! Teaching is not an easy job, and the first few months as a new teacher can be difficult, but it does get easier. Regarding apartment hunting, we encourage our teachers to find apartments by the third weekend, as from our experience this helps speed up the adjustment process, and is a big first step in making China feel like our home away from home.
