Pros

They'll get you to China.

Cons

Everything. Just don't work for them. They've found a way to make human trafficking legal. Racism, sexism, colorism and other forms of discrimination are very much apart of this company.

Pros

Correct visa and salary on time.

Cons

Foreign teachers are nothing more than performing monkeys often caught up in the local staff's jockeying for position, poor management from top to bottom. Long hours and local staff/management with zero knowledge of the courses interfering along with parents who think they can speak the language and teach better than the teachers. Steer clear.

Thank you for your comments. Firstly, I would like to say that we appreciate that you remained with us for three years and I am truly sorry that your experience wasn’t good. It is unfortunate that the conditions were such that you felt that you could not escalate and improve the situation in the three years you remained with us. Truly it is a failure on our part that we did not provide enough support and lost your confidence. It would be helpful for us to know which city and school you were in so we can investigate that situation more closely. Please know that we have received your comments and take them very seriously. We know it’s a good idea to improve product knowledge for all EF staff. Your feedback has given us an opportunity to learn and improve this.

Pros

Big company, with lots of room for travel. Easy teaching schedule, pre-prepared lessons. I worked for a corporate school, so my perks are double that of a franchise school. I was able to save some money and my schedule is very relaxed.

Cons

Non-existent communication. Deceptive practices with employees and students. Lots of legal issues. I almost got deported, and could face 5 years in Indonesian prison. Currently, the teaching visa process in Indonesia is un-navigable, and EF guarantees a visa for native teachers, but brings them over without procuring it first, making the teachers wait on a business visa for months.

As a business that has been operating in Indonesia for nearly 20 years, EF has closely cooperated with local authorities to ensure consistent compliance with local policies. EF English Centers operates with a valid license and is permitted to recruit foreign staff. Over the past half year the Indonesian government has been reviewing and adjusting their policies and procedures for employing foreign teaching staff. During this regulatory transition period EF’s Corporate Affairs has been meeting with officials in the Ministry of Education weekly to understand and implement the changes. When new information is available it is communicated to our staff either through emails, phone calls or face to face. Government regulatory changes are a slow process which can cause frustration for people who are or will be affected by the changes. No foreign staff member of EF English Centers is in Indonesia without a visa or on a tourist visa. At EF, it is our standard operating practice to be in full compliance with all of the national, regional and local laws to ensure that our centers operate legally.
