My experience at MSC Cruise Management (UK) was overwhelmingly negative. The culture is, in my view, deeply toxic and not conducive to a healthy or sustainable working environment. Leadership is a major weakness. Several managers appear to lack even basic people-management capability, leading to poor communication, inconsistent direction, and a noticeable absence of accountability. Rather than providing support or clarity, management often contributed to confusion and unnecessary pressure. Work-life balance is effectively non-existent. There is a strong, unspoken expectation that employees remain available at all times, including weekends and public holidays. I was contacted about non-urgent matters on Easter Sunday, which reflects a broader disregard for personal boundaries and employee wellbeing. More concerningly, I witnessed behaviour from senior leadership that I would describe as unprofessional and, at times, inappropriate. This included conduct that could reasonably be perceived as bullying. Such behaviour appeared to go unchallenged, which only reinforced an already negative and uncomfortable working environment. What is particularly telling is that none of this is new. I was warned by multiple people in the industry before joining, and in hindsight I regret not taking that advice. A consistent pattern of similar feedback can be seen across years of reviews, suggesting that despite repeated claims of improvement, little has meaningfully changed. Overall, this was one of the most challenging and disappointing professional experiences I have had. I would not recommend this organisation to others, unless you are willing to be available 24/7 and have no personnel life - your soul will be destroyed!
