Pros
Carrier is great at what it does. My experience was that decisions were generally made after a great deal of analysis, thought and discussion had been put in. The company is very focussed on delivering results to shareholders - this is why we are all primarily in business. There are some great learning opportunities at the company. Opportunities to learn how to execute and deliver superlative performances.
Cons
Too much focus on the bottom-line can kill morale and come back to bite the company. Several projects involving manufacturing consolidation were an absolute disaster for Carrier and should never have been approved. The focus is very much on making quarterly numbers. It's great for financial performance however, there tends to be limited investment in marketing programs to drive market share in the future. Promotion from within is rare and the company prefers to hire from outside. That means there are limited opportunities for Senior Management or Executive roles for people from within. It's best for ambitious folks to come in, learn, grow and move to a higher position at a different company. At almost 50, the average age of salaried employees is fairly high. The company is struggling to bring in younger folks to prepare for the future and will continue to do so unless the culture changes. I guess this is a problem with many companies in the US. The employee performance review process and annual feedback surveys etc are all unhelpful, unnecessary and a waste of resources. Employees pushing paper to make management happy.
