Pros

there were lots of pro's when i started, but one by one they all withered away as the culture of the company went downhill

Cons

First and foremost, the statement that employees are pressured to give positive reviews is 100 percent true. I am one of those positive reviews years ago, I was asked to give a glassdoor review, i honestly didn't feel comfortable with it, so i simply didn't put one in. Well one day I was put in front of a computer, told not to get up until I put the review in. It came off as extremely inappropriate and high pressure, and like many other employees that same day, I gave the review rather than risk issues with my job. So on to the review of the company itself, long hours, lots of weekend hours without extra pay. Pay is substandard across the board, many that have left have found competitors in the automotive industry pay significantly more money. If you take any sort of promotion, be prepared to be offered a great deal less than the previous person that held that job, all to feed the corporate greed machine, and boy is it one greedy machine! Be prepared to be harassed and questioned every time you want to take vacation or PTO too. I literally had an instance where my pto day was cancelled one day prior, simply because company leadership had decided they wanted to have a meeting that day, no warning, just "your not taking the day off, too bad" Over my years there, i brought various concerns to the attention of my GM and the VPs, they took no action on any of it. A lot of fast talk, a lot of excuses, but at the end of the day they reward bad behavior, and they will punish you for reporting that behavior. I any many others who have escaped this horrendous excuse for a culture, all agree that your last day turns out to be one of the best days of your life, the day you realize that do to their no rehire policy, you can never work there again, even if someone tried to trick you or lure you back into your old job. Let that sink in for a moment, the last day at this company is literally a top 10 day of your life, that is how bad it is here.

Thank you for the feedback. We're very sorry it did not work out for you and do wish you well on your next endeavor. I can’t say that I agree that CarShop’s culture has gone downhill. Our Culture and Values of integrity, caring for one another, fostering mutual accountability, being fair and equitable, providing opportunity through growth, driving innovation, and having a passion for success are at the forefront of our focus. We never want our associates to feel that leaving positive reviews is a requirement. The reason we solicit feedback, both good and bad, is to learn how we can improve. Hearing directly from our associates is the best way to know what they enjoy about CarShop, as well as what is frustrating them. At CarShop, we understand that work/life balance and having a positive culture are the keys to retaining great team members. We strive to provide all our associates with fair wages, a healthy work environment and of course, time off to recharge. I’m sorry to hear that this was not your experience. Again, we appreciate your feedback and wish you the best in the future.

Pros

After completing my first full quarter with CarShop, I can confidently say this has exceeded my expectations on every level. What initially stood out during the hiring process was the level of transparency—clear communication around expectations, performance metrics, and growth opportunities. That honesty has proven to be consistent with the day-to-day reality of the organization. From an operational and cultural standpoint, CarShop demonstrates a strong commitment to both its people and its customers. The caliber of talent across the organization is impressive—experienced, collaborative professionals who take ownership of their work while supporting one another. There is a clear alignment between leadership messaging and execution, which builds trust and drives performance. Having worked in roles spanning operations, marketing, logistics, and management, I place a high value on consistency between what is promised and what is delivered. CarShop delivers on that alignment. The work environment is structured yet supportive, with a focus on accountability, continuous improvement, and results. Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with my role, my colleagues, and the broader organization. It’s rare to find a company where the hiring experience accurately reflects the culture and expectations you step into—but CarShop does exactly that and I couldn't be happier professionally.

Cons

My commute is about an hour each way and there is no hybrid option - working from my home office 2 days per week for instance. Overall this is a small "Con" compared to the amazing "Pros" of my position at CarShop.

Pros

The culture in this location is great. I’ve never worked anywhere where the people (on multiple departments) got along so well and don’t make you hate going to work. Very little cliquey behavior. If you make the effort to get to know the other departments, you’ll have an easier time.

Cons

The competition is on the lower side of the industry. In sales, you have to be available even on your days off leaving a less than desirable work life balance. The expectations for the Mount holly location are the same as the stores that see a larger volume of customers. Some days you will just be sitting there. Your base salary is like $10 an hour, and the only way to get paid more is getting up in tiers which is super easy at the 5 other locations, but you’ll mostly be in the lower tier at Mount holly. Not because you don’t do your job but because there simply isn’t always enough leads. Then there’s the fact that you get blamed when something mechanical goes wrong or there’s a spot missed during detail. Car swaps can be a double edge sword. If you want to get your foot in the door in cartels it’s a great place to start. Also they will expect you to clear snow during storms.

Thank you for your thorough review. The CarShop culture is the foundation for everything we do, so we're glad that it resonated with you as well while you were on the team. The sales profession does require some flexibility in schedule, but our teams are pretty great about working together to help make it happen. We actually see tremendous opportunity in Mount Holly these days! Leads are flowing and the team is taking advantage of the generous pay plan/tiers. Ironically, mutual accountability and fairness/equity are two of our core values. Thanks for voicing a concern. We'll speak with the team to understand more. Best of luck to you!
