Pros

Fun culture and people Travel perks (pre-COVID) Ownership of your business/territory

Cons

Pay is absurdly low — no employee should have to fight for bonuses that they rightly earned. (Fair warning that you will not make more than 50k in your first year even if you are a top performer.) not to mention after COVID those who were performing well were completely screwed over with the bonus plan. Managers and leadership are not receptive to feedback. They talk so big, but the execution of ideas is rarely accomplished. Don’t let the “mission” suck you in. All management cares about is numbers and sales, which ends up being a hundred thousand privileged white kids traveling abroad. Lack of Diversity — no initiatives to hire more people of color and no initiatives to sell to people of color. When brought up it is acknowledged and no action has been taken over the years.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. COVID-19 has certainly put a pause on what so many of us love the most about working at EF – the personal travel experiences and seeing the work we do impact customers around the world. We’re very sorry to hear that you don’t feel the commitment to our mission at all levels of the organization. Our mission of opening the world through education has been one of the most important considerations driving our business forward over the last 55 years. As for our diversity, we hear you, and we agree – we have a lot of work to do. The work has started, and we are committed to making meaningful progress. We encourage you to reach out to a member of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Team if you’d like to discuss this more or if you'd like to be a part of our exciting initiatives.

Pros

While EF is a large company, it operates like a much smaller one. EF is very entrepreneurial and empowers employees at all levels. Compared to other companies EF has a very flat organizational structure. EF has a very strong culture and people are extremely passionate about working here. Humility goes a long way at EF. While some folks do leave after a few years at the entry level, there are a lot of managers and above who have grown up at EF and had very interesting careers in many different businesses and/or locations. I have seen many examples where EF values strong people as individuals and finds the right opportunities for them.

Cons

EF is the perfect place for self starters but the flip side is it's not a great place for people who need heavier detailed direction on a daily basis.

Pros

- The people here are (for the most part) phenomenal, smart, and hard-working. - The weight that lifted off of my shoulders once I left.

Cons

- Everything else. They pay employees far under market value and try to justify this with a "free beer and pizza" mentality. It's demoralizing. - Salary negotiation is non-existent. I once heard a senior director say "I've been here for 20 years and I have never once negotiated my salary". Considering that more than 65% of the people who work here are women between the ages of 22-30, they are creating a culture that discourages young women to understand their worth and speaking up when they feel undervalued. - A core value of the company is "cost-consciousness" which is really just code for "we will never give you a livable wage and we will never pay for the platforms and services you need to do your job effectively." - Products are insanely expensive for travelers considering the haphazard approach that is taken internally to assemble them. - CEO is a billionaire who is out of touch with his employees and makes no effort to hear their concerns and fix the company culture. Toxic is an understatement.
