Pros

Dover is THE PLACE FOR HORSE PEOPLE to get whatever you or your horse needs. I was a Product Advisor. Customer satisfaction is their motivation and they stand behind their statement that you can return anything at anytime for a full refund. It is amazing what some people will return, one woman actually brought in a child's helmet and her reason for returning it was that her child had outgrown it!! We accepted it back with a smile on our faces. You do get to work a lot of hours, they do not want you if you cannot work 20+ hours a week but they do hold back on having anyone full time but managers and assistant managers. Compensation is not great at all, there is a rather large discount on Dover manufactured items which is great. The people you work with are other horse people and in my store we had a great bunch of people working there.

Cons

For me, the only problem was the distance driving in from where I live. Moving up in the company is hard only because management does not leave unless they go open a new store. It is a great place but you cannot earn your living there being a Product Advisor.

Pros

The biggest and BEST "pro" for me was that the discount on everything was incredibly helpful since I own several horses. You could place your order and have it in a week tops and the discount amount itself was amazing, especially on Dover made tack/clothing/items. The vast majority of the other employees are all super easy and friendly to work with and around and the management doesn't tend to hold themselves too far above the rest. They're fair, fun to be around and very understanding. The benefits are also very good and having those and taxes removed so you don't need to do it both make getting a pay check pretty simple. There is a HUGE variety of jobs within Dover that you can work and depending on your experience, you're able to bounce in and out of different departments if you ask management. They're good about allowing you to move around a bit to fit whatever works best for you.

Cons

Unless you're experienced with any and all things horse related, there wouldn't be a lot of growth in departments other than warehouse jobs for those without the experience. There aren't a LOT of promotions given but if you have good communication skills and grow throughout the time at Dover, the management will move you up in pay rate.

Pros

Dover was for me a solid model for high end retail and customer service. There was always plenty of opportunity to learn more about the product offered. The discount is also a great incentive to encourage employees to recommend the products to customers. Testimony is the best selling point!

Cons

There was little or no room for personal growth within the company. Under $9/ hour is no way to make a living. Also, transferring an employee instead of promoting them gives the impression that they are no longer wanted. Their warehouse pays well; but if you are female, expect to be ignored by management when you are disrespectfully treated by male co workers!
