A once great company that has lost its way and can't seem to find it again....

Pros

Compensation commensurate with other high tech companies. Dell also offers opportunities to really change things and strike out on your own. However, there are downside risks to doing so with almost no upside.

Cons

No overall vision/strategy that is consistent over the long term. Also, a maniacal focus on whats wrong and focus on mistakes versus encouraging risk taking. company pays lip service to risk taking and diversity. In action neither are embraced. just look at the senior executive ranks over time for a proof point. Dell is also very inconsistent in promotion policies between different divisions from the junior to executive ranks. If you are in the "in" crowd, it can be good. however, if you fall out, you are in deep trouble....

Great for family people, not so much for new hires

Pros

Great for Work life balance, work from home facility, time for family, mutual respect, no pressure and chilled culture and environment. They have a good Volunteer separation package and good benefits and compensation in general. Easy to shift teams horizontally.

Cons

There is Very slow vertical growth, slow, political and bereaucratic, not a great new hire program. There are too many re-organizations to stabilize and work productively. However, they are trying to reduce number of layoffs.

Dell demands super human efforts from its employees, but only rewards those who are politically connected to senior management.
