Pros

When you are into aerospace engineering, the DLR is one of the best places in the world to go to. Highly challenging tasks with committed and bright co-workers. For IT professionals there is a wealth of interesting problems (robotics, computational fluid dynamics, visualization, supercomputing, to name a few).

Cons

Nothing really, besides the salary. The German Aerospace Center is a governmental non-profit organization, as such, the salary is below industry average. But that's more than compensated for by the job itself.

Pros

- Place to work for independent people - Perfect environment for personal development - Things are done aligned with operational needs if the area of work is in operations or they are done when they are done in non operational environments. Good support of delivering good results vs delivering results at a specific date. - Traveling to conferences and meetings supported and desired

Cons

- no overall strategy, independence in nearly all area's - Teamwork is sometimes to weak based on political reasons of the institutional setup. - limited chances for carrier growth

Pros

I work in DLR already 1 year. For research is the best place to be. Great athmosphere and quite relaxing environment.

Cons

For having a market oriented career, or trying to make a great career, not. I felt disconnected from the real world problems.
