Pros

The people and some partners are great. Leadership has seemed great but recently made layoffs by telling people the same morning their account was deactivated.

Cons

Firm leadership cares only about margins and their ranking in top 10 firms. Charge hour budgets are unrealistic when factoring in PTO, travel, and training.

Pros

Wearing Jeans Every Day is awesome. Working from home or remotely whenever I want allows a lot of flexibility for traveling with my family for extended periods of time or working from home whenever I need to wait on a repair person to show up. Leadership at this firm is progressive and very focused on changing to meet the needs of the current work force. There is a strong belief that growth and future success of the firm is heavily tied to the development and retention of employees. This includes making difficult hiring and firing decisions so that people that have an obviously negative effect on team members are not tolerated. Many firms pay lip service to this idea, but fall short when busy season hits and they are desperate for people who can get the work done. I have witnessed this in my past while working in Big 4 as well as another national firm. The "no jerks" policy at Crowe sometimes means sacrifice in the short term to handle the work while waiting for the right person to be hired, but in the long term there is much less turnover. At a firm as large as Crowe this policy isn't always perfectly adhered to in every single group, but it is working in a majority of groups and very common in every office I have visited. Leaders are very focused on giving people a plan for the future. As soon as I joined Crowe I knew what my 3 year, 5 year and 10 year career plan was and what I needed to do to achieve the stated plan. It's the first firm I've worked for where the partners have focused in on making sure I have a well developed plan to grow and make partner down the road. The firm structure encourages partners to create the next generation of partners because it has a very positive impact on the existing partners.

Cons

Crowe expects their professionals to heavily focus on an industry and become experts in that field. You can't be passive about your work and just showing up to get the work done isn't enough in the long term. This means doing research, writing articles, joining industry trade groups, spending time networking, and a lot of extra work outside the normal chargeable projects. Sometimes the bar seems to be set very high and can be overwhelming at times, but there is a lot of support to help reach the set goals. The downside is that not everyone finds a long term position in the firm and those that don't show consistent growth are sometimes counseled out the door.

Pros

Flexible vacation time (3-4 weeks) Decent pay ($60k, staff level w/cpa)

Cons

At first glance, Crowe appears to have a culture of care. The people are outwardly friendly, willing to approach and provide small talk but when it comes down to it, however, this is all a mask. The management team backstabs each individual behind closed doors. This company is an example of micromanaging at it's finest, making it toxic to its employees and overall working environment. The company lacks vision, and becomes caught up in the juvenile politics making efficiency a foreign concept. The performance managers and the supervising team fail to confront you with constructive criticism, but rather through cowardly playground antics. Do not work here if you want to be valued for your skill rather than using you as a puzzle piece in their game of simon-says. To be successful at Crowe, you have no choice but to be a yes-man and play their games. Pay close attention to the company culture and beware of the false smiles and promises.
