Pros

The onboarding process was fantastic. Got to meet people from almost every office in the country. They provide great benefits and PTO. The location of the Columbus Office is great, right next to the arena. Most of the seniors and staff there are hard-working and great to work with!

Cons

While the firm stressed a "Work-Life" Balance, this was always difficult to achieve, even when it wasn't tax season. Managers would get upset if staff and seniors didn't work 60-65 hours a week in off-season. The seniors were way overloaded with work but the company wasn't bringing on any new seniors, only new managers. Many of the seniors and managers did not know how to correctly use workpapers, so they couldn't train new staff on how to correctly complete workpapers, but then they would get angry when it wasn't correct. Many members of management seemed to enjoy putting staff down and making them feel worse about themselves. One manager would even give staff poor performance evaluations if they disagreed with her.

Do not work at Crowe

Pros

1. Higher salary - but not if you break it down to hourly rates. 2. Looks decent on a job resume, but definitely not as good as Big 4, so if you can get hired by Big 4, don't waste your time on Crowe. 3. Work life balance is better than at the Big 4.

Cons

1. Once someone makes partner, they are basically allowed to say or do whatever they want, with no regard for policy or decency. Really immoral behavior by practice leaders in some groups is the norm. 2. I heard several partners talk about how the "pyramid" model of partnership was currently failing because there were not enough people interested in becoming partner to pay out the partners trying to retire. Instead of fixing this, they just started promoting (aka allowing people to buy in) people to partner that were absolutely not qualified.

The Los Angeles Office Has Major Issues

Pros

Get to work from home. If your good at kissing up, you will get promoted. Get to work on big engagements.

Cons

No work / life balance at all. Upper management expects substantial amount of overtime even in non-busy season. Uneducated managers play the blame game and hide from responsibility. Everything falls on the staff even if the staff is not at fault. People talk behind your back all the time and never actually confront and resolve the issues. Upper management avoids dealing with the problems at the firm because they are the problem. They let employees leave rather than resolve the problems.
