Better sales opportunities.

Pros

Absolutely no pros to this company at all.

Cons

Turn-over is very high in every department. Management only holds sales department accountable for their actions, and sales is very micro-managed. Compensation is very low and has only increased by $10/unit since the business started. Commission driven, and set rate by vehicle sales, service plans, accessories, and gap. You make a commission when Carmax purchases a car from your customer, but if that is attached to a sale you don’t get the money for the trade. No compensation for coming in to do weekly training. You must pay for your uniforms and everything you wear must be Carmax, and their clothing is not very affordable. For example, their winter coats start at $135 and you cannot even wear one that matches their color scheme. Benefits are a joke, and sales doesn’t qualify for any benefits other than insurance and vacation pay until after 12 months of continuous service, while salary and hourly jobs do get them after 30 days. You’re required to do internet office shifts which do not pay, and if you cannot schedule appointments around those hours then you must give up half of your commission so someone else can help your customer, even if you’re just sitting there not answering calls or web leads. Consultants are constantly trying to get in the middle of your deals or stealing your customers, and managers have no concern about you finishing your sale with your customer. You can lose your commission if your customer returns their car within their 5 day return policy, and will even take it if for some reason it has to come back outside of the 5 day return policy.

Poor Decisions about the future

Pros

CarMax has no interest in retaining valuable people. I would highly recommend you keep looking. I wasted several years of my life with a company that couldnt care less about their people.

Cons

You will have no future. Especially if you are in the purchasing department. Expect layoffs.
