Pros

Easy to apply for a position Help of local professors/supervisors with finding a fundable project Some dedicated researchers

Cons

In my personal opinion, NO foreigner should ever work for CONICET as it only brings out negative feelings and stress: 1) Complicated and typically delayed visa process 2) No salary is being paid for months due to the delayed visa and, as a result, delayed project start 3) Constant problems with issued bank cards: the PIN code is not working/has been annulated without your knowledge, huge line-ups in banks to fix any problem 4) Issued insurance only works in the capital. In the provinces it is practically useless 5) Poor working conditions and equipment 6) Unimaginable bureaucracy on ALL levels. Impossible to talk to the qualified personnel, opinions differ based on whom you talk to. Any change (e.g., place of work, supervisor) has to be presented as official paperwork, and takes months to obtain ( often impossible). 7) Impossible to obtain a local identification document (DNI) since postdoctoral researchers are NOT considered workers but rather students! (P.S. without DNI any communication/transaction with argentinian institutions is almost always negated). 7) Slow pace of work. Inefficiency.
