      Pros

      Flexibility, CH2M allows you to work from home or the office or anywhere, as long as your internet connected. CH2M also has some landmark projects, and some great people that make up the company. However, it used to be a great company, family feel and employees were well regarded. Unfortunately because CH2M has had some recent "bad" projects, the company constantly goes through a restructuring and has some considerable lay-offs.

      Cons

      CH2M talks about work-life balance, but in reality this is not true. There is considerable pressure to stay client billable and if you are not, it is very likely that you are going to be made redundant. CH2M has a little yellow book of values, but rarely follows it, and management pressures employees. One specific example would be the DTRA Program Manager - who insists that his direct reports and staff that work on the DTRA program only bill 8hrs per day on their timesheet, regardless of the actual hours that they work. Although this is a direct violation of company policy - it is forced upon the employees who work on this program.

      Cons

      Horrible company that does not care about their employees. Took over a great Canadian owned environment firm, destroyed its reputation and ultimately dismantled it.

      Pros

      Prior to acquisition by CH2M, TERA was a great company. Quality people, lots of energy and drive. Many university graduates got a career kick start there. The good ol' days at TERA were buzzing with projects and business. It was growing really fast, but the so-called acquisition by CH2M "to grow TERA further" was a pie in the sky. Layoffs and cuts followed.

      Cons

      Unfortunately it all came to a sad end when Calgary-based TERA got gobbled up by a giant US company CH2M. After rounds and rounds of layoffs no one wants to be there anymore. At TERA you are looked at as an individual, at CH2M you are just a number and if billable work is not spilling over you, no one will help you make new connections to find work, be it locally or throughout the CH2M world. CH2M is reactive to Canadian economy and due to seasonal nature of work in oil-and gas consulting, they are quick to lay people off. As others said, billing during the work day is a total pain if you are not busy with project work. Can't bill your time reading company emails either. So you basically volunteer your time for a multi-national multi-billion dollar company. And then you get laid off anyway.
