A once great company gone bad

Pros

Some great staff that make the job bearable. Vast route network. Ideal for those that want to explore the world for a year or so.

Cons

Constant cut backs in all areas, including safety critical ones. A complete lack of flexibility or understanding from management. A totally demotivated workforce that is constantly having to reapply for their jobs. Petty decisions. No work life balance at all. "It's legal" should not be the response for everything. And while on the legal side, ensure that teams do actually know the regulations, particularly within scheduling. Here's a hint. An A320 needs a maximum of 4 cabin crew from base. We can not just "claim a one light payment" because we are short of crew. And we should not have to argue the case for over 20 minutes and then have the delay put down to crew. For scheduling to not know all of the agreements is understandable, given the ridiculous variants there are across the fleets. For them not to know the law is unforgivable.

Bullying as a management tool

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Interesting environment, interesting prices, highly skilled colleagues - they all made for a job that should have been ideal. A willingness to adapt and invent made for interesting systems to work on, with a forward thinking attitude from the business.

Cons

Under Willy Walsh, bullying has been established as a management tool, ask the whole telling everyone that bullying will not be tolerated. In the same breath as telling the staff that they are valued, central services such as IT are aggressively outsourced to third party petals with a less than viewing track record. And heaven help you if you get ill. BA has a problem of an ageing and expensive staff, but rather than negotiate amicable exits, the management style is to make staying intolerable. Leaving was the best career! I've ever made.

Pros

The flight benefits are a plus but there are other airlines with WAY better flight benefits than BA's. The flexibility is probably the best thing - take off days by getting people to work for you. I'm a part timer but if I wanted to, I could work more than 40 hours by picking up shifts.

Cons

Feels like you're back in HS. Co-workers are horrid. Management is not so great. Supervisors are not all good.
