Horrible experience

Pros

The only good thing about Baker Tilly Detroit is the other staff. The staff supported each other when the managers were not helpful.

Cons

Note above I said only the staff because anyone above the staff level have issues. Managers and Partners expect new hires to learn quickly (first project it is not okay to learn from) and if they don't then they are shunned for the remainder of the time they are working at Baker Tilly. I consistently saw staff used as the scapegoat and managers never took responsibility for their lack of accounting knowledge, which a lot of them lack. The only time I saw a staff on the tax side get promoted was if they threatened to quit. Unfortunately I feel like my career as well as my fellow staff's careers regressed. Sadly this was not a good first experience. I recommend looking at other accounting firms.

Pros

- Very nice office. - Many smart, good people to work with. - Opportunity to lead engagements early in career. - Opportunity to conduct audit from planning to wrap-up as staff. - Much of the work is challenging.

Cons

- Poor Leadership. Many Partners are dishonest and misleading. - Poor work/life balance with excessive travel. - Low employee morale, many people frustrated with leadership. - Company rarely promotes from within. They heavily recruit people from Big 4. - Not a fun place to work. No team building events. Bad place for young people to work. - Very clicky, and nepotism dominates. If you don't align yourself with the right people, you won't get ahead here. - It is difficult to be successful if you get put on projects that were underbid and that are impossible to achieve realization.

Pros

No pros. The Minneapolis leadship is clueless, directionless, and inbred. Nothing positive. Except maybe the location. Nice office building.

Cons

They did not know how to land clients. They did not know how to service clients. The leadership was wrapped up in their own agendas. Nothing learned here
